Be rcmíntled lhát State YAD in craft,
art, talent, Beseda, etc., is fast ap-
proaching — Sunday, August 23, in El
Campo High Sehool Auditorium. Lét
us support our youth and show them
that we care!
♦ ♦
Sunday, August 2 we attended the
seventh and last district YAD at
Snook. The District I YAD was the
last one for 1970. We wish to statě
that all seven YADs were much i ne-
proved and greater than ever before,
■although some were more attended
than others. The only one your editor
did not get to attend was District IIFs
YAD in Dallas, dne to a eonflict in
dates. DYD1 Lola Vavra of District I had
a well-direeted program. The youth
were present in a large number, and
although the weather was very sultry,
the attendance of adults was large.
Brother Janoušek was available, as
usual, for any questions arising and
Sis tor Vavra kept the program mov-
ing smoothly. Here it is fítting to ob-
serve that Director John Kuběna of
District I, as did all of the other dis-
trict directors in their YADs, was
available and present so that all tab-
ulating was fair and correct and to give
out the winners’ checks. It certainly
is a boost for the youth and adults
to see their district director present.
It also is so refreshing to see our
SUNSHINE AND MUSÍC
A laugh is just like sunshine,
It freshens all the clay,
It tips the peak of lile with light,
And drives the clouds away;
The soul grows glad that hears it,
And feels its eourage strong;
A laugh is just sunshine
For cheering folks along.
A laugh is just like musie,
It lingers ín the heart.
And where its melody is hcatd,
The ills of ltfe depart;
And happy thoiights come érowding
Its joyful notes to greet;
A laugh is just like music
For making living sweet.

youth displaying so much brotherhood
and sportsmanship, In this era of un-
rest of the youth on the earth, es-
pecialiy in the U.S., the damage they
do and lengths of unlawfulness they
go to it certainly is worthy to notě
here that it gives your editor, and I
am sure the Supremo Lodge officers,
as well as the entire SPJST member-
iShip, a feeling of pride in the
efřorts of our youth. Yes, we give
away quite a sum of money as awards,
however, let us be seriously mindful of
the good accomplislied: girls learn
cooking, eanning, sewing, etc., whereas
the boys také up elecfcronic study,
mechanics, woodworking, science, etc.
Some youth excel in singing, acting,
public speaking, etc. All of these will
help them in their futures to make
them better citizens and members. By
all this they learn to respect each oth-
er, their elders and the SPJST more.
It is up to us to also show them our
respect.
To add a.t this time, DYD Lola Vavra
wrote asking that our presence would
be appreciated because she had a sur-
prise for us. Yours truly thought she
meant a large attendance, which it
was; however, speaking for the youth
of District I, she presented yours truly
with a surprise gift of a beautifully
carved letter opener “.in appraciation
of your interest in our youth.’’ A sin-
cercly appreciated gift, Sister Vavra
carved letter opener “in appreciation
one. Thanks so much. Now why would
an editor need a letter opener? Thanks
again. Interest in our youth is a big
part of' my job — offieially and per-
sonally.
