In retrospect may it be stated
that the convention was both con-
structive and eventful. The dele-
gates seemed to come rather well
versed and prepared to deliberate
on important issues concerning
matters of importance to our
SPJST. One observation your edi-
tor will make as constructive criti-
cism is that when the delegates
vote to set a time limit of 4 minutes
and vote to speak only once to an
issue they should observe their
choice and not abuse it, because, in
doing so, they certainly plače an
extra amount of strain on the pa-
tience of a fraternal chairman or
vice-chairman. Here let it be said
that our convention chairman Bro.
Cyrill (Sid) Pokladník certainly
deserves the thanks and gratitude
of all of us for a patient attitude
to a trying and tiring job well-
done. It is not very easy to hold
the gavel and see an overstepping
of the rules at various times for
4 days and not use it, however,
there are times when he must. For
this convention, he certainly has
this writeťs respect, as does our
sincere and patient as well as
efficient vice-chairman Bro. Ladis
Navrátil. Your editor writes these
tkneš from personál experienee,
The delegates also should be com-
mended from their actions, for
again in this convention as in pre-
vious ones, a disinterested party
sought me out and. commented on
the entire assembly including the
audience. He remarked: “You are
the editor I see. Well, let me telí
you that we wish all of our con-
ventions were as quiet, orderly, and
smooth as yours is.” There is your
reward fellow members! You should
be proud for your restraint and or-
derly conduct. More could be said
about what was told to me, but
“nuff said.”
You awarded the contract to
Čechoslovák Publishing Co. for
which I am grateful. Many of the
delegates met Bro. Linn and Sister
Sue Pescaia. It is the' understand-
ing of the delegates, and especial-
ly the Publication Committee that
yours truly really and sincerely
appreciates.

The Monday night dance at Lodge
No. 66 was very thoroughly enjoyed
and all seemed to really háve a
good time. Time is rushing us and
we will only toueh on the subjects
very lightly.
Tuesday night was the Youth
Speetacular and Dallas Concert Or-
chestra followed by a very defi-
n i tel v enjoypd by all dance spon-
sored by the tri-host convention
Lodges 6, 35, 66.
Another highlight of the Conven-
tion came Wednesday night with
the crowning of Mary Cavanaugh
of Granger as Miss SPJST of the
XXIInd Convention. Named first
runner-up was Connie Hrncir of
Corpus Christi, with Bečky Smith
of Houston as second-runner-up.
This was followed by a musical
presentation paying tribute to our
Natioiťs Bicentennial by the XXII
Convention Chorus.
The XXIInd SPJST Convention
Publicity Committee is to also be
commended for their efficient work.
