MINUTES OF XIX SPJST C0NVENTI0N
Friday Afternoon Session
June 19, 1964 ;
Chairman Paul Sablatura, called the
delegation to order at 1:00 p. m. Broth-
er Sidney Kaeir, one of the secretaries,
read the minutes of the morning ses-
sion of Friday June 19, 1964. Several
minor ehanges were made and subject
to the corrections the minutes were
duly accepted.
Brother Rudy Sefcik (88) informed
the convention that Sister Agnes Ma-
zanec had informed him that the ca-
tering Service which served the banquet
at the Karem Temple Ballroom compli-
mented the entire SPJST for leaving
the ballroom so clean.
Brother Paul Sablatura, the chair-
man, informed the delegates that the
nominations are now open for the Pres-
ident of the Supreme Lodge.
Brother J. R. Bartek (92) nominated
Brother Edward L. Marek. Brother J.
Nemy (136) nominated, Rudy Sefcik
(88). Brother F. E. Hejl, Ji\, (47) nom-
nated Brother Nick Morris.
A request was made that Brother
Morris be allowed to speak, and he in-
formed the members that he has not
been a membér of the SPJST for a
period of 5 years, and that he has sev-
ered his alliance with the Western Bo-
hemian Fraternal Association, and
that he is strictly for the SPJST, and
that the only way that he eould be
left on the ballot, is by the convention
voting by 2/3 majority, that this rule
be set aside. Brother Morris asked
that his name be withdrawn. Brother
Morris’ name was withdrawn from the
ballot.
Brother R. J. Holubec, Chairman of
the Election Tellers Committee, an-
nounced that 18,945 votes were cast.
Brother Edward L. Marek received 13,-
413 votes, and Brother Rudy Sefcik re-
ceived 5532. Brother Edward L. Marek
was elected as President of the Su-
preme Lodge for the next four years.
Brother Paul Sablatura informed the
delegates that the nominations are now
open for Vice-President.
Brother Ben J. Trcalek (17), nomi-
nated Melvin H. Skrabanek (17), and
Brother Otto Hanuš (66) nominated:
Joe B. Hejny, for the Supreme Lodge
Vice- President.
Brother Chairman Paul Sablatura
notified that the following members are
to serve on the committee to translate
the By-Laws into Czech.

Brother George Kaeir (54) rejeeted
the nomination and requested that his
name be taken off. Granted. The
committee will only be eomposed
of Brother August Kaeir (87) and
Brother Fr. B. Steiner (84).
Brother Calvin Chervenka (69), Chair-
man of the Publications Committee,
then introduced Tonimie Turner of the
Central Texas Bureau of the Dallas
Morning News; Miss Alice Straup of
the Waco Times Tribune, who has giv-
en the SPJST a great deal of publicity
at this convention,
Brother Edward L. Marek, President
of the Supreme Lodge, gave a speech
thanking the delegation for electing
him for the next four years, and stated
that at the next convention he will not
be a candidate for this Office.
Brother R. J. Holubec (20), Chair-
man of Election Tellers, announced
that there were 18,815 votes cast for
Vice-President. Brother Joe B. Hejny
received 10,672 votes, and Melvin Skra-
banek received 8143. Brother Joe B.
Hejny was elected Vice-President of
the Supreme Lodge of the SPJST for
the next four years.
Nominations were now open for Sec-
retary of the Supreme Lodge and
Brother Emil W. Popp (54) nominated
Brother R. A. Urbanovsky which was
duly seconded and Brother A. L. Hil-
s.her (88), made a motion that he be
elected by acclamation, which was duly
passed. Brother Urbanovsky was elect-
ed Secretary of the Supreme Lodge by
acclamation.
Brother Chairman Paul Sablatura
announced that the nominations are
now open for Treasurer of the Supreme
Lodge. Brother Charles Holásek, a Di-
rector of District No. 7 nominated Jos.
Koliha, Jr., Brother Ed Mazanec (66)
nominated Alvin Nesudá. A question
was raised whether or not Brother
Charles Holásek had the right to nom-
inate Brother Koliha, and after a
ruling from the Parlimentarian, Broth-
er George Kaeir, it was ruled that the
District Director can deliberate and
make motions but cannot nominate or
vote.
Brother Jos. Koliha, Jr. was then
nominated by Brother Pete Valchar
(161).
Brother R. F. Holubec, Chairman of
Election Tellers, announced that there
were 18,436 votes cast. Brother Koliha
received 15,636 votes and Brother Alvin
Nesudá received 2800 votes. ,
Chairman Sablatura announced that
the Management and Operations Ana-
lysis Committee, which will serve
through the 1968 convention, will be
eomposed as follows:
Brother Melvin H. Skrabanek (17)
Brother G. Louis Kudrna (25)
Brother F. J. Olexa (88)
Brother George E. Kaeir (54) moved
that in the event of death or disabil-
ity of one of the members of this
committee, that the Supreme Lodge
will háve the authority to fill the va-
cancy. Approved.
Chairman Paul Sablatura received
the votes of the delegates approving
the appointment of the members nam-
ed to the Management and Operations
Analysis Committee.
Vice Chairman Sid Pokladník an-
nounced that the floor was open for
nominations for financial Sec’y. Bro.
Ben Jarma (84) nominated Brother
Ben Zabcik.
Brother Jerry Afilan (154) moved
that we elect Brother Ben Zabcik for
