REPORTS FROM LOCAL LODGES
Strana 19
SPJST SOFTBALL TEAM
Dallas, Texas, July 11, 1956
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
On Tuesday night, June 26, our SPJST
softball team opened play in the seč-
emi half in the City Majors American
League by dropping a 1 to 0 loss to
Naval Air Station. I was at the con™
vention at Temple during the week of
the game,, so ni quote the writeup from
the Dallas Times Herald:
“Art Huffman tossed a three hitter
and straek out 17 as the Naval Air
Station defeated SPJST 1-0, in a city
Major Softball League contest Tuesday
at Lownview Park. A triple by Dále
Capps in the sixth inning deprived the
SPJST pitcher Jim Seoggins of a pos-
sible no-hit, no-run game. It was the
only hit he yielded, and it drove in the
game’s lone tally. Seoggins struck out
12 batters,
In the other game, Brown Window
Bryan Miller’s two run homer to a 5-2
Victory over Woodard Motors.”
Raymond Srnith, Joe Jarolik and
Daryl Griser hit safely for the only hits
in the game. Wilbur Munger turned in
an out-standing job behind the plate.
The ! team can be proud of this game
even though they lost, as everybody
played their best.
Our July 3 game was postponed and
will be played at a later dáte.
On Tuesday night, July 10, our team
was defeated by a strong Woodard Mo-
tors team, seore was 10-0. The old in-
jury jinx hit us again as Raymond
Vrana, our shortstop, collided with an
opposing' base runner and was knocked
out for several minutes. After undergo-
ing a checkup at the Baylor Hospital he
was released. After the mishap, the team
didn’t play the balí they are capable
of playing, but this was understandable.
Albin (Bino) Vrana got the lone hit for
our team, a triple. Wilbur Miunger turn-
ed in another goocl game behind the bat.
In the other league game Browne
Window Co. defeated Naval Air Station
by a 12-2 seore.
Our next game is Tuesday night, July
17, game timse 7:30 p.m. and our oppo-
nent will be Naval Air Station. On Tues-
day night, July 24, we play Browne
Window Co., game time 7:30, and on
July 31, we play Woodard Motors which
will be the last game of the season in
league play. The games are being play-
ed at Lawnview Diamond No. 1 just off
Scyene Road, So come on out and see
some of the games before the end of
the season.
On Saturday night, July 28, our soft-
ball team is sponsoring a Speciál Ben-
efit Dance at our halí, 2625 Floyd St.,
and all proceeds from this dance go into
the softball team fund. The team will
appreciate your attendance as we need
your support and your assistance. So
make your plans now to attend and
bríng your fa mály, friends and your
neighbors and help us make this dance
a success. Music will be furnished by
Mr. John Rejcek’s orchestra. Remem ber
the dáte, Saturday night, July 28. We
are hoping to see you all.
Fraternally yours,
Ben Jarma, Mgr. Softball
Team, Lodge Pokrok 84
