use of the park’s kayaks,
or bring your own. Wear
clothing you can get wet
in, and meet at the boat
ramp. There is a limited
class size, so reserva-
tions are required.
• Geocache 101
Class at 3 p.m. Learn the
basics of how to use a
global positioning unit
(GPS) to find hidden trea-
sure almost anywhere.
No equipment neces-
sary. Meet at the park
amphitheater.
September 1
• Kayak Paddling
Tour at 8 a.m. Paddle
along with a guided tour
of the coves of Purtis
Creek. You can use your
own kayak, or use one of
the park’s. Wear clothing
you can get wet in and
meet at the boat ramp.
There is a $12 fee for the
tour, and tour size is lim-
ited. Reservations with
pre-payment is required.

Area teams fine tune their football game

last Friday for their second, and final, scrimage
before regular games begin tomorrow. The ’Jackets
host the Palmer Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.

day of scrimmages before the football season begins. The Panthers host the
Malakoff Tigers at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow to kick off the 2013 football season.

Lady Panthers take first at Eustace tournament

EUSTACE-The Ma-
bank Lady Panthers took
first place in the champi-
onship bracket at the
Eustace volleyball tour-
nament Aug. 22-24, by
beating out the hosting
Lady Bulldogs in two
games.
In their journey to the
top, the Lady Panthers
played strong in pool
play, earning themselves
a spot in the champion-
ship bracket.
In the first game in
bracket play, the Ma-
bank girls defeated the
Canton Eaglettes, the
defeated the Rice Lady
Bulldogs to advance to
the championship game.
Eustace defeated the
Kerens Lady Bobcats in
round one of bracket
play, the beat Brook Hill
in round two to advance
to the championship
game.
The Lady Panthers
showed a scrappy tenac-
ity while the Lady Bull-
dogs showed heart and
determination as the Lady
Panthers rolled to a 25-
17 win in game one and
a 25-14 game two win
for the title.

12 blocks, with Bailey
Swain getting four.
Swain also had six kills,
four digs and two ace
serves.
Eustace’s Peyton
Dibari had five kills, and
Caitlyn Culp had four.
Crystal Garcia had
Eustace’s only ace.
Mabank’s Madison
Holyfield had six kills,
four digs and a block;
while Mikayla Adams had
seven kills, two blocks,
three digs, an ace and a
save. Meagan Holyfield
added 22 assists.
The Kemp Lady Yel-
lowjackets took third
place in the silver
bracket.
After defeating North
Dallas in round one, they
fell to Fmitvale in the sec-
ond round to move into
contention for third place.
In the third place game,
the Kemp faced off against
a strong Ennis junior var-
sity team, with Ennis slip-
ping past the Kemp girls
for the third place win.
The Mabank Lady
Panthers will compete in
the Tyler Invitational vol-
leyball tournament this
weekend before traveling
to Wills Point on Sept. 6.
The Eustace Lady Bull-
dogs will also compete at
the Tyler tournament, and
will host the Scurry-
Rosser ladies Sept. 3.
The Kemp Lady Bull-
dogs will compete in the
Scurry-Rosser volleyball
tournament this weekend
and will host Eustace Aug.
30 (tomorrow).
