2014 DeWitt County
Row Crops Tour
DeWitt County Row Crops Committee
will be hosting their annual Crops Tour on
Tuesday, June 24. The program will begin at
3:00 p.m. at the Yorktown Community Hall,
across from Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Registration will be between 2:00 - 3:00
p.m. Following the tour stops the program
will conclude at Gruenau Hall, eight miles
north of Yorktown off of FM 108.
After a welcome and overview at the
Yorktown Community Hall, the tour will
begin with the first stop being at the Tracy
Metting Farm to view and discuss the Cotton
Variety Test Plot. The tour will then proceed
to the Fred and Chad Hahn Farm to view and
discuss the Com Hybrid Test Plot.
Anthony Netardus, DeWitt County Ag
Extension Agent, will be the moderator at
the two crops stops, and guest speakers will
include com and cotton seed representatives.
After the crops stops, the tour will then pro-
ceed to the Gmenau Hall, where it will fin-
ish up with two programs.
A program on “Identification and Control
of Forage Feeding Insects” will be presented
by Dr. Roy Parker, AgriLife Extension En-
tomologist and a program on “County Road
Repair Legislative Funding Update” will be
presented by Daryl Fowler, DeWitt County
Judge. Grady Kelley, DeWitt County Farm
Service Agency Director, will also give a
brief update on FSA programs.
The Row Crops Tour is sponsored by
Texas AgriLife Extension Service of DeWitt
County, DeWitt County Row Crops Com-
mittee, and Yorktown Chamber of Com-
merce & Agriculture. Row Crops
Committee members are Carroll Blank, Ben
Hahn, Michael Chumchal, Carl Blank,
Joseph Respondek, and Chad Hahn.

Yorktown Chamber of
Commerce and Agriculture,
Inc. will be holding a rib-
bon cutting ceremony for
the new Subway located on
Main Street at 10 a.m. on
Friday, June 6. The public
is invited to celebrate the
grand opening of the newest
franchise in Yorktown. The
store is offering a buy a 6”
sandwich and get a 6” sand-
wich free and a free drink.
This promotion is good at
the Yorktown location on
Friday, June 6 and Saturday,
June 7.

Receipts: 536
Had 71 cows and 11 bulls. The packer market
was higher on a light run due to rainfall during the
week. Receipts were down all week while demand
remains strong with a limited supply.
The calf market was somewhat higher across
the board. Some tops were 8-10 cents a pound
higher. Most classes were $2-$3/cwt above last
week. Grass conditions across the country are
good and supplies are short with a strong de-
mand on equals high prices.
Packer bulls: Heavy weights 100-125; lower
grades 80-100.

canners and cutters 82-113; light and weak 38-45;

Dr. Alan Elliott
Dr. Alan Elliott, 51, of
Victoria died Friday May
23, 2014. He was bom Au-
gust 17, 1962 to Bob and
Gayle Elliott. He attended
University of North Texas
in Denton and Texas Col-
lege of Osteopathic Medi-
cine in Ft Worth. He work
at Cuero Community Hos-
pital Emergency Room for
17 years. Alan enjoyed
playing the guitar, singing
and playing golf.
Alan is survived by his
daughters Gina Munson of
Ft Worth, Caroline Elliott,
Emily Elliott both of Victo-
ria, son Sam Elliott of Cor-
pus Christi, parents Bob
and Gayle Elliott of
Georgetown, brother Bobby
Elliott and wife Danella of
Georgetown. He is also sur-
vived by his nephew Chris
Elliott.
A memorial service will
be 1:00pm Saturday May
31, 2014 at Parkway
Church in Victoria.

Agustina C. Villarreal
Agustina C. Villarreal, 94,
of Yorktown, TX passed
away on May 22, 2014. She
was born August 28, 1919 in
Yorktown, TX to the late
Maximilliano and Juanita
Vela Corpus.
She married Nicolas Vil-
larreal on June 15, 1940.
She was a homemaker her
whole life and enjoyed her
family and her grandchil-
dren.
She is survived by her sis-
ter Ofelia Corpus of York-
town, her sons Henry (Rosa)
Villarreal, Daniel (Mary
Helen) Villarreal, Fred (Glo-
ria) Villarreal, and Robert
(Cindy) Villarreal all of
Yorktown, daughters Irene
Boerm, Gloria (Edward)
Sanford, Lucy Riedesel, and
Amber (Daniel) Rios all of
Yorktown. She also survived
by 24 grandchildren and nu-
merous great and great great
grandchildren, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death
by her parents, husband
Nicolas Villarreal Sr., her son
Nicolas Villarreal Jr., her
brother Refugio Reyes, sis-
ters Merce Valdez, Chonita
Villarreal and her grandchil-
dren Haley Banda, Marcus
Puente, and Cindy Sanford.
Visitation will be at 1 pm
on Sunday May 25, 2014
with a Rosary at 7 pm at
Massey Funeral Home. Fu-
neral services will be Mon-
day May 26, 2014 at 10:00
am at San Luis Catholic
Church. Interment will be at
San Luis Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her
grandsons Danny Villarreal,
Daniel Villarreal Jr., Robbie
Villarreal, Nicholas Villar-
real, Matthew Villarreal, and
Anthony Rios.
Honorary pallbearers will
be remaining grandchildren

• YHS Honor Graduates for 1989 were Jason
Heil, Valedictorian; Shannon Metting, Salutato-
rian; and James Dworaczyk, Honor Student.
Jason is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Heil. Shan-
non is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Metting
while James is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Dworaczyk.
• Miss Jamie Burda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James P Burda, was complimented with a birth-
day party on her 11th birthday anniversary on May
17,1989, at their home. Twelve of Jamie’s friends
enjoyed horseback riding and volleyball.
• Trandon Wade Leist, son of Allen and Cheryl
Leist, observed his fourth birthday anniversary on
April 23,1989 and celebrated the occasion with a
BBQ at his home. On April 29, Trandon enter-
tained 20 of his friends at a party held at the York-
town Fire Station.
• Rex Christian Perez was baptized Sunday,
April 16,1989 in Holy Cross Catholic Church by
Father Al Padalecki.
• Angi Jaeger was selected to lead the YHS
Wildcat Band as drum major for the 1989-90
school year. Virginia Naranjo and Shelley Bolting
were named twirlers of the Wildcat Band. Jalyn
Heil, Kristine Eichhorn, Eva Torres, Denise
Schulze and Leslie Russell were selected as the
flag corps.
• Members of the 1989 Nordheim High School
Graduating Class were Matthew Allman, Paul Jus-
tice, Shane Nelson, Virginia Nelson, James
Ochoa (Salutatorian), Remigio Perales (Valedic-
torian), Geraldine Saldana and Clarence Smart,
Jr.
• Mr. and Mrs. Bill Klaevemann honored their
daughter, Amy, with a dinner and open house to
celebrate her confirmation at St. Paul Lutheran
Church on Sunday, April 30,1989.
