AGENDA IS IN THIS ISSUE.

The Supreme Lodge Annual Reports
of our officers and directors are in this
issue which contain a large amount of
information pertaining to the work of
our Supreme Lodge and SPJST Soci-
ety.
In Supreme Lodge President
Leshikar’s report is a thorough Over-
View pertaining to many aspects of our
home office and society which shows
the various benefits that our SPJST of-
fers to its members and, especially
calls attention to one of the most im-
portant facts or facets of our organiza-
tion and that is our society is
composed of a membership and lodge
systém which it must continue to do so
for its own well-being in the future.
We all know that the various depart-
ments of our statě and federal govern-
ments are seeking ways to tax every
organization in our country including
the IRS. You will notě and, please,
read carefully the reference to the
seven largest fraternal organizations or
societies in our National Fraternal
Congress (NFC).
These seven largest societies háve
grown so large with tremendous assets
that the IRS had begun to investigate
them previously for taxing purposes,
however, delayed their investigation
for some other urgent business, but,
they will return to the investigation
now very soon; these seven large fra-
ternal societies háve large holdings
and háve also accumulated a large
amount of money which the IRS has
its eyes on. It goes without saying that
if they tax those seven fraternal benefit
societies, then they will háve a more or
less an "open dooř" for taxing every
fraternal benefit society once the "gate
is open"—as the saying goes.
It is very important for our society to
continue being a fraternal benefit in-
surance organization and, definitely,
stress the fact that we are: benevoíent,
not only to our members, but to our
communities and neighbors as well.
Please read his and all the other re-
ports rather carefully.
In Supreme Lodge Vice President
Gebala’s report you will notě that he is
stressing the fact that our sales force in
the field is doing a good job and are
doing the best they can, however, he
also stresses it goes without saying
they (sales representatives) really need
the support of all our local lodge of-
fices and members in order to grow
and gain members, because that is
what insures our solvency and makes
us a stronger society.
The 100 Percent Family Pian that we
had begun in 1991, is one of the best
ways to gain new members and insure
good and steady membership growth
because if one member in a family is
an SPJST member, then the remaining
of that family, are already acquainted
with the type of sound insurance our
society offers in its forms of many var-
ious plans.
"Rolling over" a member’s policy
into some other pian without addi-
tional insurance being sold does not
gain our society any additional finan-
cial reserve. Every new policy or cer-
tificate adds to our financial strength.
It is a very good idea for our sales
representatives to remember that all
these other types or plans of insurance
besides Loan Pay Life and Universal
Life are also very good types of insur-
ance for our people and people outside
our organization who probably can use
one of those other plans of insurance
to better advantage.
Probably the two newest ones, Lone
Pay Life and Universal Life can fit
into their budgets and, of course, for
good, sound investment we háve the
Annuity and IRA Plans. Let us get be-
hind our sales representatives and give
them all the support we possibly can.
In Supreme Lodge Secretary and
Treasurer Mikeska’s and also Finan-
cial Secretary Mikuláš’ reports we can
see how much money is continually
being turned over as well as invested
in the Supreme Lodge daily. This re-
cession has also cost our society, be-
cause in these reports, we can see that
quite a few of our members háve
cashed in their insurance policies be-
cause of their need of money.
This writer feels that it would be of
sounder judgement for our members to
borrow against their loan value rather
than "cashing in" their policies com-
pletely because they háve no insurance
left if they cash in or surrender their
policy or certificate.
It takés good care-taking to keep the
large amount of money continually
moving so that it does not lie around
without earning interest.
In reading Supreme Lodge Legal Ad-
visor Kacir’s report you will notě that
it covers the many aspects of our soci-
ety at work and how involved some of
the organizations’ affairs become.
There is much information in his re-
port that we should také to heart after
reading his report carefully. He really
outlines the very essence of what our
society was founded for and how it
continues to progress after so many
years, because we continue on the path
that our founders had planned out for
it.
The Supreme Lodge Directors’ re-
port gives an overall review of what
happened in the past year and also
gives a sound picture of what tran-
spired in the past year. As far as our 3
tenets: Benevolence, Humanity and
Brotherhood are concened, it also cov-
ers the financial condition of our soci-
ety.
With our XXVI Convention draw-
ing closer and closer, it is actually our
duty, not only a privilege, to study
these reports carefully and think how
we can improve the future by our ac-
tions to insure a still sounder and safer
SPJST then it is today. Although we
are still very solvent, we need to keep
ourselves financially sound so that we
are not like some other insurance com-
panies which háve become on the
"risky" edge of becoming insolvent by
investing in poor investments and, es-
pecially in "junk" bonds.
