Reports on
August Meeting
The regular meeting of Lodge 66 was
held on August 18 with President John
Engelke presiding. Flags were presented
by Sandra Trickett, Candice McAdams
and Alicia Nesiony. Justin Engelke led
the SPJST Motto. Members stood for a
moment of silence in memory of our
deceased members, Sister Jennifer Lee
Steinocher, Sister Lydia Grossman and
Brother Marion Miller. May they rest in
peace. We extend our deepesí and sin-
cere sympathy to these families.
Sister Dana McAdams reviewed infor-
mation releating to the position of Czech
Culture and Language Liason. Also,
Brother John Engelke reviewed inťorma-
tion and a brochure from the Czech
Educationa! Foundation of Texas on the
organization of a Czech Chair at Texas
A&M University.
Lucille Červenka, Entertainment
Committee Chairman, reported since the
month of September is the anniversary of
Lodge 66, a speciál meal of fried chicken
will be served. Members are requested to
bring a vegetable dish or a salad.
Fraternal Activities Coordinator Mary
Alice Langlotz reported 22 adult mem-
bers and ťive youth attended the August
22 game night. George Pauling won the
dooř prize. The next game night will be
September 9. Mary Alice asked that
everyone try to come out. Everyone has
fun. She announced on November 16,
the State Volleyball Tournament would
be held at the Temple Recreation Center.
She discussed the incentive awards and
all were encouraged to attend and to
compete in the various contests at the
District Three fall meeting to be held on
October 27. The goal for 1997 is to
award 100 scholarships in conjunction
with the lOOth anniversary of the SPJST.
February 1, 1997, is the deadline to com-
plete applications. The 100 pennies drive
will begin on October 1. Also, now is the
time to begin the selection of Fraternalist
of the Year.
The Cheer and Condolence
Committee report was gíven by Emma
Česka. Get-well cards were sent to
Lucille Červenka and Ben Pustejovsky.
Sympahty cards were sent to Mrs. Betty
Steinocher on the death of her daughter,
Sister Jennifer L. Steinocher; to Sister
Poliv Gaidusek on the death of her sister,
Oíillie Gerik; to Sister Leona Nors on the
death of her sister, Mary Domesle; to
Sister Berneil Bezanson and Brother
Wiíliam Gaskamp on the death of their
mother, Mrs. Erma Gaskamp; to S;ster
Frances Ender on the death of her hus-
band, Ervin Ender; and to Brother Henry
Grossman on the death of his wife, Sister
Lydia Grossman. To all these families,
we extend our sincerest sympathy.
Brother Jerry Kučera reported that 21
more new members were needed to
obtain our goal of 50 new members for
1996. He said with everyone helping, we
can get this doně and would receive the
Platinum Award. He outlined the details
of the membership drive. Cash and other
awards will be made to the lodge mem-
ber, sales representative and for the lodge
for recommending new members.
Brother Kučera announced plans háve
been finalized for a “battle dance” at
Linden Halí on Sunday, September 29
from 2 to 7 p.m, featuring the Vaněk
Polka Band from Dallas and Jerry
Haisler and the Melody Five. Admission
will be $6 per perosn.
Sister Libbie Parma reported merit
awards would be presented at the regular
lodge meeting on September 15 and
encouraged all youth members to attend.
New members accepted were Renee
Aviles, Irene Ortiz, Lori Beth Ortiz, Mary
Andria Ortiz, Mary Ann Ortiz, Alberto
Ortiz, Jr., Mitchell Dain Tyra and Susan
May Tyra. We weícome you and hope
you will join us at meetings and partici-
pate in our activities.
The Christmas party was discussed.
Members voted to change the dáte of the
party to Sunday, December 8 at Linden
Halí. A catered meal will be served.

Entertainment Committee.
Lodge 66 has started forming volley-
ball teams and if any Lodge 66 member
is interested in playing in the State
Volleyball Tournament to be held in
Temple on November 16, please contact
Geroge Pauling at (817) 754-7633 or
John Engelke at (817)799-4247. There
will be spiking and non-spiking cate-
gories in the adult category and in the
youth (ages 14 to 17) category. Prizes to
be awarded in each category will be $75,
$60, and $50, plus a trophy.

Trickett on her essay on Flag Day which
she read during the meeting; also to
Dakota Yates who was presented the
District Three Little Mr. SPJST plaque;
and to Jesika Tierce who was presented
the Youth Achievement Award in appre-
ciation for her time, efforts, hard work
and dedication. ín response, Jesika said
she will miss the youth club activities.
She will be attending Navarro Junior
College and we all wish her the best in
the future.
Diana Engelke, Youth Leader, report-
ed on their meeting with 13 youth present
and one visitor, Makala Yates. There
were many things going on during the
last month and the youth háve been
working very hard. Some of the activi-
ties included operation of the kitchen;
working on Tom Waís sales as a fund
raiser; made donations of melons to the
Moody xNursing Home; making plans to
work on float decorations for Wesífest;
planning írips to Fiesta Texas and
Astroworid; and attending the workshop
for youth at the Bell Expo Center.
The dooř prize winner was Robert
Seith and Jesika Tierce won in the 50-50
club. Members present celebrating birth-
days were Gladys Pustejovsky, Johnnie
Gaidusek and Dorothy Veselka. Happy
Birthday to each of you and also to our
members having August birthdays who
were unable to attend.
The next meeting will be Sunday,
September 15. Please made plans to
attend this meeting which begins at 2:30
p.m.

Invites Everyone to
25th Czech Fest
Dear Members and Friends,
Sunday, September 8 is coming soon.
We invite you to our 25th Annual Czech
Fest. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and a
reál Czech dinner will be catered by
Bessie Petr starting at 12:30 p.m. The
price will be $6.50 per adult and $3.50
per child (ages 12 and under).
Various booths will include the coun-
try store, gift, pastry, cake waík, and oth-
ers. Donations will be appreciated, such
as groceries for the teen country store,
gifts, new and old or home-canned
goods, pastry for the booth and for din-
ner. We need your favorite cake for the
fun cake walk.
There will be a free dance starting at 3
p.m. until 6 p.m. Music will be by the
Vaněk Czech Band.
Drawing for the 26 prizes listed on the
tickets we sent to our members will be
doně several times during the afternoon.
Come see if you are one of the lucky
ones. If you cannot come and bring your
tickets, please mail them and your check
to the lodge.
Please notě we will háve a dance on
Saturday, September 7 from 8:30 p.m. to
12:30 a.m. Jodie Mikula Band will play.
We will navě the gift booths open for
early shopping. Do come.
We look forward and hope this 25th
Fest will be our best yet. So, make plans
now to join in the fun of our Czech
Heritage—eat, drink and be merry.

Jodie Mikula Dance on September 7
Our next dance will be September 7.
Jodie Mikula will be playing for the
evening. Did you hear about their recog-
nition in Branson? We always enjoy their
music very much.
Czech Fest is September 8!
Perhaps the gift shop wíll háve items
on display at the Saturday dance so you
can shop early.
We can use items for the gift shop,
country store, booths, and pastry for the
cake walk and, of course, for our dinner.
There will be entertainment for all ages.
Bessie’s Catering Service will prepare
our feasťfor the day. You won’t be disap-
pointed! The day will end with a free
dance from 3 to 6 p.m. Music will be by
the AI Vaněk Band.

Lawrence J. Elzner
to Retire from Navy
Lawrence J. Elzner, CTR1 (SW),
United States Navy, will be honored
with a retirement ceremony at the
Fleet Combat Training Center in San
Diego, California, on September 13 at
10 a.m.
Larry is retiring with 20 years Ser-
vice. He will remain in San Diego,
California, and work in
Communications. Larry wřent into the
Navy after graduating high school.
Larry is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Jerry Elzner of Corpus Christi. His
parents will attend the ceremony and
then visit friends on the West Coast.
Larry and his parents are members
of Lodge 79, Corpus Christi.

Bossier City Tbip Set for September 18
The trip to Bossier City will be
Wednesday, September 18. The bus will
leave from 2625 Floyd Street at 6:30 a.m.
and will leave Bossier City at 6:30 p.m.
The bus will arrive back at the lodge at
approximately 10 p.m. Cosi is $25 per
person and will háve the usual amenities.

served on the bus. Reservations can be

August Meeting
Dear Members,
Our meeting opened with members
reciting the pledge to our flag. President
Yeager welcomed a visitor, Brother Jerry
Kučera. She urged him to explain about
getting new members and what incentive
this holds to all members who help
secure them. He wished us well with this
project and success with our upcoming
Czech Fest on September 8.
Correspondence was received from
the Czech Heritage Society, Supreme
Lodge, Czech Edcuation Foundation of
Texas and Feliowship of Texas.
Committee Reports
Secretary Salac reported on the
Speciál Committee as well as the Living
Memoriál.
Sister Tydlasta presented the Sunshine
Committee report. She sent get-well
cards to Brother Louis Slovák, Brother
Daniel Coker, Brother Leo Rejcek, Sister
Annie Petr, and Sister Alicia Jarred.
Sympathy cards were sent to Brother
David Dybaia on the loss of his mother-
in-Iaw; Sister Rosemary Zábojník on the
loss of her mother; Sister Vicki Kohn on
the loss of her aunt; and Brother Ed
Tyroch on the loss of his brother.
