Reports on Activities
Dear Members and Friends,
We really had a full day and evening
on August 24. Our annual tarok games
started at 9 a.m. and were through about
5:30 p.m. I will write more about the
games in my next letter as I will know the
winners and also will háve some photos
of the players.
Then, at 8 p.m., the lights were
dimmed and the wonderful music by the
Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Sbc from
Pflugerville, Texas, started to play and the
members and friends filled the dance
floor. The band really played lots of nice
polkas and waltzes and mixed music.
There is always the waterfall dance that
people íike as it gives a chance for all sin-
gles and widows a partner to dance. This
is sometimes better that the Paul Jones. I
also was told that there is a dance called
the chair dance. It is a line dance that
gets men and women out of the chair and
on the floor to háve a good time going
around the halí.
The Fritz Hodde band is very enjoy-
able and they talk to people so that makes
the band popular. Also, it is nice that they
bring thier wives and Fritz Hodde brings
his mother. It is nice to visit with them.
But all polka bands that play here are
liked very much. It is sad that many of
our members and friends háve given up
dancing due to their age, but some come
just to listen to the music.
One band from up north says that we
should remember the ones that háve
passed away and remember the good
times that were had. The ones that háve
passed are the ones that kept our lodges
what they are today, so I hope that when
our time is up that the younger generation
will continue to uphold the SPJST lodges.
These are the places that you can bring
your children to háve a safe plače for
entertainment.
e It is always nice to write about a mem-
ber that has doně some outstanding work.
So we want to congratulate one of our
members, Michael Tate Fincher. He has
just received the great honor of Eagle
Scout Court of Honor. We know that the
scouts háve to do a lot of good work to be
able to receive this kind of honor. He
receives lots of merit badges before get-
ting the Eagle Scout award. Here is the
Eagle Scout Pledge: “As an Eagle Scout,
I realize my obligation to my fellows, my
home, my country, and my God. I will at
all times do my best to assist other Scouts
who are climbing the trail to Eagle, to
give more back to Scouting than it has
given to me and to assist my troop as
much as possibíe. I will be a living
example of the Scout Oath and Law to
the best of my ability.”
Michael Fincher is the son of Frank
and Janet Prochaska and the grandson of
Frank and Josephine Prochaska. All are
members of our Lodge 92. Michael will
be going to the University of Texas in
Austin, Texas.
As far as I know, our sick list is better.
Frank Tesař is walking better after a
stroke and is now staying with his daugh-
ter, Mary and Kenneth Křivánek. Carl
W. Zich is improving but has quite a lot
of pain as yet. I just do not want to give
up but as you know, it is hard when you
háve only a íittle left of your left lung. I
think I am doing good after having such a
serious operation.
You may think all my letters are about
our annual Heritage Day because we
want you to be sure to remember the dáte
and come. September 21 is a full day of
entertainment. This all starts at noon.
