The uses of the instrumental:
1. It denotes an instrument or
means by which something is doně:
Píšu pérem. Jedu vlakem (= by train)
nebo autem ( = by car, or drive).
Otevírám dveře klíčem. (= with a key).
Myju se vodou a mýdlem. Platím
dvacetikorunou. (= twenty-crown
notě).
2. Instrumental ušed after some
prepositions:
s— with, together with, in company of:
Jdu s Petrem do kina. Chléb s máslem.
(= bread and butter). Hraju si s malým
chlapcem. Setkal jsem se s přítelem, (to
meet). Seznámil jsem se se zajímavým
člověkem, (to make acquaintance).
Nemohl jsem se dorozumět s tím
cizincem, (to make oneself
understood). Loučím se s otcem a
matkou, (to say good-bye, to part).
před— in front of, before: Stojím před
domem. Odešel před hodinou.
za— behind: Amerika je za mořem.
Honza běží za Karlem.
nad— above, over: Nad stolem visí
lampa.
pod— under, below: Sedíme pod
stromem.
mezi— between, among; Jsme tady
mezi přáteli. Brno leží mezi Prahou a
Bratislavou.
Notě: Před, za, nad, pod, mezi with in-
strumental denote position (like na
with locative), but with accusative they
denote motion, direction (like na with
accusative). Observe: Obraz visí nad
stolem. Dávám obraz nad stůl. Petr
stojí před naším domem. Alena
přichází před náš dům.

Society of Texas for Runnels, Concho
and Tom Green Counties and the sur-
rounding Concho Valley will hold its
first quarterly meeting Sunday,

St.Ambrose Fellowship Halí in

with), házet kamenem (throw a stone),
