reports on
December meeting
President Patricia Bruče opened the
meeting at 10:45 a.m. We were led in
prayer by Sydney Jurchak, The Pledge
of Allegiance was recited and our
Recording Secretary Flo Orsag read
the names of deceased members—
Adela Kite, Evelyn J. Hyde, Edna E.
Wilson, Gwendolyn Michulka, and
Joseph R. Knapick. A moment of
silence was held in their memory.
Roli call of officers was read and all
officers were present with the excep-
tion of Second Vice President Viola
Cox and Youth Leader Barbara
Gonzales.
Recording Secretary Flo Orsag read
the minutes of November, 2003 which
were approved as read. She read a
thank you notě from Susan Sloan of
The University of Texas, M.D.
Anderson Cancer Center thanking the
lodge for its contribution to the center.
The secretary/treasurer read the
profit and loss statement for
November, 2003.
President Bruče reported that she
had a wonderful year as president of
SPJST Lodge 88, Houston. She
attended many meetings, and she
thanked everyone for making her year
as President a wonderful one. She also
appointed a committee to count votes
for those going to the convention in
June. They were Margaret Allbritton,
Carol Havemann, and Florian
Demney.
Report of Guide Josephine
Pflughaupt reported that there were 83
members present.
We sang “Happy Birthday,, to the
birthday recipients and acknowledged
the anniversaries. They were Dona
and Press Clooney; and Lydia and Tom
Marsh. Winners of $5 dooř prizes
went to Josephine Buri, Celestine
Darilek, Charles Pustejovsky, Grace
Snyder, and Jo Ann Buri.

Annual Meeting
At 1 p.m., December 14, 2003,
President Bruče called the second half
of our meeting to order with prayer.
Dorothy Pflughaupt led us in reciting
the Pledge of Allegiance. We all sang
the National Anthem led by Helen
Hegwood and Fred Buri accompanied
by Patricia Bruče on the piano.
Recording Secretary Flo Orsag read
the names of the deceased members
for the year 2003.
A motion was made and seconded
that we dispense with the reading of
the minutes from December, 2003.
Motion carried.
President Bruče reported that she
failed to mention Entertainment
Chairman Betty Theiss earlier in her
report, and she apologized. Also
Estelle Kelly was not mentioned earli-
er. She is still in the hospital. Keep her
in your prayers.
President Bruče appointed Carol
Havemann to be chairman of the com-
mittee to count votes for the officers
voted on, should it be necessary and
Margaret Allbriton and Florian Demny
to help her. Marceil Malak announced
that the Remuneratioms Committee
met and made recommendations for
the officers for 2004. Our new officers
for 2004 are:

Report of Committees
Delegates to the convention in
Temple are too numerous to háve in
the Věstník. If you are interested in
knowing these, please see the
Secretary’s ledger in the oťfice.
Fred Buri announced that the chorál
group sang at the Needville Rest Home
again this year. They háve been singing
in Needville for the past 33 years.
Guide Josephine Pflughaupt read
the names of the $5 dooř prize win-
ners. Winners of $5 each went to
Gladys Havemann, Paul Beck, Victor
Stanek, Dorothy Pflughaupt, and
Georgie Barcak. We had one new
member present, James Polanský.
Also we had 83 members present.
Larry Pflughaupt installed the
newly elected officers and board mem-
bers for 2004.
The meeting adjoumed at 2:45 p.m.

Scholarship Recipients Doing Well
Lodge 88, Houston extends its congratulations to its members who
were the recipients of scholarships and are now continuing their
education in college. Christina Coileen Joseph, left, daughter of
Sharon and Mark Joseph, was awarded a $750 scholarship and is
attending Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas.
Tamara Čhe Williams, center, daughter of Jeři and Jackson Williams,
received a $750 scholarship and is attending Sam Houston State
University in Huntsville, Texas. Tracy Dianě Nowak, right, daughter of
Marjorie and Michael Nowak, received a $500 scholarship and is
attending the Art Institute in Houston. Scholarship Committee
Chairman reports that donations háve been made to the Lodge 88
Scholarship Fund by the Birthday Club Sisters in memory of Kathy
Trefell, Allyne Adam and Louise Kadlecek.

reports on Wharton December
January meeting meeting report
Plctured above are the members of the Lodge 88, Houston Chorál
Group that performed at the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. 2 in Needville
in December.
Lodge 139, Danbury met at Filipp’s
Café Wednesday, January 6, 2004 with
18 members and one visitor present.
President Lonnie Loštak called the
meeting to order. The Pledge of
Allegiance was given by all present.
Secretary Linda Vrážel read the min-
utes of the last meeting. The minutes
were approved. Treasurer Ellamarie
Filipp gave her report. It was approved.
Secretary Linda Vrážel reported one
new member, Haley Ray Oaks. She
reported two transfers from Lodge 81 —
Kelly Follett and Paula Follett. All were
accepted. We wish to welcome them
and hope to see them at our meetings.
Nominations were made for dele-
gates for the convention in June and
approved.
Officers for the coming year were
nominated and approved. They are:

Winnie Stefka, and Ellamarie Filipp.
Visitor Lynn Johnsen gave a report
on expectations for the coming year
and each member’s responsibility.
Officers for the coming year were
installed by District Five State Field
Representative Lynn Johnsen.
Birthday wish for the month went to
Linda Vrážel
The meeting adjoumed. The next
meeting is February 4.

Lodge 151, Wharton met on
December 1, 2003 at Hinze’s Bar-B-
Que, Wharton, Texas. A sociál hour
began at 6:30 p.m. with a catered meal
for members and guests. Members
provided the desserts for the Christmas
meal.

presided over the meeting.

read the minutes and gave the treasur-

Julius Kalina presented Geraldine
lochec with her 50-year pin. Other
recipients were Brenda Humbeson,
Marvin Macek, August Malik, Frank
Miska, Theresa Miska, Lucella
Roecker, Samuel Smolik, and Dalton
Ustynik. Congratulations to all our 50-
year members.
