Celebrating
SPJST’s success
^Ihe SPJSTAwards Banquet is
sure to be an exciting one this
Saturday, February 25, at ťhe Killeen
Civíc and Conference Center. Many
awards will be presented to deserving
fraternalists across the statě. The
event begins with registration from 12
noon to 1 p.m. The program will start
promptly at 1 p.m. with introductions
and a welcome. Professional speaker
Clyde “The Cajun” Harris will then
deliver his message. He is president
of Programmed Motivation
Company, a Laugh Insurance
Company.
Following Mr. Harris, the new
membership campaign —Action ’06
will be explained in detail. Awards
will then be presented to local lodge
fraternalists of the year and award-
winning lodges, sales agents, mem-
bers, youth leaders, and youth mem-
bers. More than 200 awards will be
presented to deserving members cele-
brating the success of SPJST in 2005.
See you at the banquet!
A Royal Family
One of the items in last week’s mail
was the photo of the Lodge 202,
Jourdanton officers for 2006. The
officers are a great group of people,
but I was especially impressed to see
District Seven King Phillip Barta
serving as Vice President and follow-
ing in the footsteps of his grandpar-
ents, parents, and aunt Valerie as a
lodge officer. The Bartas are an amaz-
ing family. Grandfather Evan is an
active member of Lodge 202, and
grandmother Mary Ann serves as the
lodge’s second vice president/FAC.
Phillips dad, Jeff, is the lodge presi-
dent. Mom Belenda is the District
Seven Assistant Youth Counselor.
Sister Veronica is the District Seven
Queen. There’s also younger brother
Travis who is an active youth club
member. It is a rare occasion to háve
both a king and a queen in the family!
Both Phillip and Veronica are exem-
pláry young people who excel in
everything they do. I am proud to
know the Barta family and congratu-
late them on their leadership in SPJST.
2006 Float Debuts in Palacios
The SPJST Float made its debut in
an extremely windy Palacios, Texas,
on Saturday, February 11. Thanks to
District Six State Field Representative
Karen Kašpar; Lodge 148, El Maton
President Chris Zielonka; Lodge 148
Youth Leader Jennifer Carter; Lodge
223, Palacios President AI Pěna; and
Lodge 223 Secretary Melanie
Longoria for their assistance with the
float and dealing with the weather!
