of Gregg County, actually launched the campaign last January, and the mankind's Ilia rest.
movement has spread to every section of the state.
More than 3,000 attorneys from virtually every county In the state
have given their personal endorsement to Shepperd.
“This endorsement of the legal profession is not surprising to us here
at home who have observed John Ben at first hand over a period of
years," the Gladewater Dally Mirror commented editorially. The news-
paper went on to review the candidate's record as a lawyer since he
graduated from the University of Texas Law School In 1941; his service
with distinction as city, school and district attorney In Gregg County,
and some of the work he has done since Governor Allan Shivers appoint-
ed him Secretary of State. This work has included reorganization, em-
bodied In 17 bills passed by the Legislature which have resulted In sav-
ings of thousands of dollars to the taxpayers, and at the same time the
office is receiving more money and handling more business.
In Gregg County, Shepperd served as president of the bar associa-
tion, as chairman of the American Citizenship Committee of the State
Bar of Texas for two years He Is one of five members of the American
Citizenship Committee of the American Bar Association, and Ls currently
chairman of the Legal Education and Institute Committee of the State
Bar of Texas.
Proven administrative ability, wide contacts with the people of Tex-
as. ms splendid personality. Inexhaustible energy and high moral and
Intellectual standards, together with his background of well-balanced
legal experience, constitute admirable attributes which fit the candidate
lor the position to which he aspires.
Like the Wichita Daily Times, we believe that his campaign for at-
torney general will be successful, and we Join others In commending his
action in leaving the appointive position of Secretary of State to make
the race for Attorney General
It is typical of this Texan that he does not choose to remain on the
public payroll while devoting time to the campaign.
We are convinced that the fine ethics he has shown throughout his
life will reflect credit upon Texas in the Job he is asking the people of
Texas to give him
The promotion is deserved

The Texas Safety Association

this summer, Instead of the usual
competitions to see who can drive
the farthest and fastest and play
most dangerously.
“A restful vacation ls more likely
to be a safe vacation,” said W. Car-

"And the statistics of summer acci-
dents certainly should make all of
us think about safety.”
A motor vehicle accident ls the
most likely mishap to spoil vaca-
tion rest and fun, but many of
them could be avoided with a little
advance planning. Mr. Morris said.
He emphasized the Importance of a
thorough safety Inspection of the
car before starting a motor trip.
"Texans now have the opportun-
ity to take advantage of their new
motor vehicle Inspection system
which offers a uniform safety
check at convenient locations
throughout the state.” he said.
