A visit to the field was made hy
the Herald reporter last Saturday.
On the outbound trip the routing
wus hy way of the community of
Fairview, where there is a wayside
store operated hy John Fmjuay. Mr.
Fuquay reported having leased his
section for a consideration of $10 an
acre and that the purchaser was ne-
gotiating a transfer of -anie at an ad-
vanced price, probably $20 an acre.
Another lease in that neighborhood
was said to have been executed by
the Huff intrrc-ls and another was
in like process of negotiation cover-
ing the Phillips holdings. No other
recent lease transactions in that im-
mediate neighborhood were reported.
A couple of miles or so from the
Fairview turn in the road and north-
west is the Fred Hver well, recently

leases for $250,000 to the Marland
company who deepened the old slow-
ly producing discovery well and in
creased its flow to more than 100
barrel* u day. A visit to this well
revealed the drillers busily engaged
in swabbing. Definite knowledge of
the production once the pump* arc
put in will have lo await that in*
otallntion.
To the north of the Hyer well
about a mile the Speer- Apprrson
well, sold also to the Marlaml people,
was being worked on but operations
temporarily idle when visited by the
reporter. This well is also a good
producer, said to he better than any
in the Chalk field proper. Here
there i- an intense interest as mani-
oil is being found.
Ihe Coahoma road is hut little, if
any -horter than the mountain road
from Hig Spring to the main Chalk
field. It is a good road ill most of
its length, but it i- surely not one over
which heavy loads could he econom-

this shipment breaking the oil bubble
