University Honors Bishop Martin
Bishop and Mrs. William C. Martin were the re-
ceipients of a silver coffee service at a recent luncheon
in their honor given by the Southwestern University
Board of Trustees. Soon to retire, Bishop Martin has
been a trustee since 1948, and as President Durwood
Fleming said at the presentation he has combined
“insight, guidance and leadership” with the uncanny
ability to “see the far side of near things and the near
side of far things.” Ordained in 1921, Dr. Martin be-
came a bishop in 1938 and served in the Pacific area,
Kansas-Nebraska area and since 1948 in the Dallas-Ft.
Worth area. Attending the luncheon, in addition to the
trustees were the administrative staff of the Universi-
ty, faculty and student officers, district superintendents
of the Central Texas Conference and other special
guests.
will be in charge of the interviews.
The cfficers are: Judy Ledbetter,
president; Skipper Shaw, vice-pres-
ident; and Barry Simmons, secre-
tary. Also serving on the interview
committee will be the new commit-
tee chairmen and vice-chairmen,
and Mrs. Jeff Campbell, Union Pro-
gram Director.
New committee members will be
immediately notified. An orientation
and planning workshop will be held
for all committee chairmen and vice
chairman on Sunday, May 3.
