Sammy Says
It’s definite now, there will be a
huge Bonfire and Pep Rally, pre-
ceded by a Torchlight Parade
through Georgetown, and bach to
the sqhqpl. This is a new version
of an old Southwestern Tradition,
that is teing >CYiv$d qfte? several
years of sleep. The Parade, Bonfire,
and Rally are scheduled for Mon-
day.
%
•O-
p.m. This is the day before the first
home varsity basketball game of
the current season. (It’s also the
Monday that precedes the Wednes-
day, Thanksgiving Recess.)
The big pre-game rally is being
sponsored by the SUB Directorate
in conjunction with the cheerleaders
and the basketball team. It is being
staged with the primary purpose of
building school spirit and support
for the Southwestern Pirate Basket-
ball Team. Our school spirit during
the past several years has been
lagging, so it is hoped that, by
starting off with a bang, we really
can show our boys that we are be-
hind them, spurring them on to
that ‘TOO percent Needed Effort”
and a victorious season.
The big event will kick off with a
torchlight parade through George-
town. It will start in front of the
Union and proeede through town,
aroynd tlie courthouse upd back tq
the campus for the bonfire and ral-
ly. This will be the first torch light
parade ever held in Georgetown. (In
its recent history that is—since the
inyeotiPU of the electric light.) We
hope that naapy of the campus or-
ganizations will want tg. participate
in the parade by entering a float
or other attraction—prizes will be
given to the best entry. The parade
has. great possibilities, as we’re
planning to have a marching band,
banner^, and to be §ure—torches,
so spirit will be running high.
Following the bonfire and pep
rally, which will be held on the
vacant lot north of fraternity row,
the SUB Directorate has scheduled
a very informal danced with jukebox
in the Union Building. Hot CbPPQ-
late will be served and everyone can
dance by the fireside, bping free to
come and go as he pleafes.
fhe SUB Directorate urges all
to export the tegm by making
plans now to participate in the
pargde, bonfire, pep rally, and on
Monday night and by attending the
first big game on Tuesday, Novem-
ber 20.
Notes From

various groups on campus which
wpuld include the Senate. No com-
petetitive prises are to bp given.

proposed tv aerial would cost ap-
proximately $18 for the SUB.
Huntley Kennesson reported
that a Safety Committee meet-
ing discussed Civil Defense, light
ing, open door between Kurth and
LK, and the campus traffic prob-
lems.
Linda Olson resigned as chair-
man of the Student Directory Com-
mittee and Pat Tanner volunteered
to serve as the chairman in her
place. Dean Allen agreed to sup-
port the committee through secre-
tarial work. Becky Mays and Kaki
Harris will also help. rj
Huntley Kenneson then reported
about the Laison Committee meet-
ing. They discussed the drinking
regulations, faculty travel, the in-
tegration issue, how S.U. can at-
tract more students from tfeo upper
quarter of fhe graduating class,
and bQw S. V. can secure more
well-qualified professors.
Under new business, Ben Ader-
hoit meved that the Senate accept
a poll which cnnsjsfs of seyen qyes-
tions about drinking. The motion
carried, with an ammeudment that
tfie P°H be taken at the voting
polls by voting cards.
ft was decided that the Student
Sepate would back the torch par-
ade on November 19 by entering
some sort of banner or car. Dorr
othy Bohmfalk was asked to be
chairman of a committee to decide
just what the Senate should enter.
Arlen Ferguson, Larry Lowman,
and Mary Patt Moffitt were also
appointed to serve on this commit-
tee.

find out about the price of charter-
ing a bus for an out of town bas-
