Mediocre Expectations 1
John didn't care for Wallace
Herbert, whom he considered one
of the most arrogant people ever to
draw a breath and then exhale it
with some self-praising and/or
condescending comment.
Whatever had happened to Wallace
couldn't be more than he deserved,
in John's mind. Many times since
the two had met, John had wished
that be some miracle of divine
justice a Technics Fully-
Programmable High Speed Linear
Access System CD Player With
High Resolution Sound Filter
would fall from the sky and smash
Wallace in the head. Was it too
much to ask? But John's
assumption that Wallace had fallen
upon ill fortune was hasty and was
soon shattered. "He won the ten
million dollar sweepstakes. No
kidding," said Thomas.
John was silent for a moment
and his expression remained, as
always, constant. After a moment
of pondering the new development,
he returned his attention to the
letter.
I got this great recipe for
spinach dip out of Good
Housekeeping. We tried it the
other night and it was absolutely
marvelous. I thought you might
like to have the recipe in case you
wanted to entertain some friends or
something in your room, sort of a
neat little get-together. I'm sure
they would all like it. You just
mix the ingredients well and
refrigerate for two hours before
serving. It's inexpensive, too.
(continued from page 4)
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream
1 box of Knorr’s dry vegetable
soup mix
I 10 oz. pkg. of chopped
spinach
3 green onions, chopped
1 can of coarsely chopped water
chestnuts
At this point Talking Heads
began to make some peculiar
noises. John looked up just in
time to see his cassette deck come
to a squeaky halt. He got up and
walked over to the machine,
pushed "eject," and extracted his
tape which was tangled in the
player's interior.
"Bummer, dude, "said Thomas,
looking up from a comic book.
