Chappell will attend the Na-
tional VFW Convention in New
Orleans, August 18-25, along
with other officers of the Texas
VFW.
The Refugio veterans’ leader
was elected to state office at the
47th annual state convention in
Corpus Christi on June 25. Three
weeks later, he went to Okla-
homa City for the summer meet-
ing of the Southern Conference
as one of Texas’ three top offi-
cers.
One of Chappell’s most recent
trips was to Denison, Texas, on
Saturday, July 29th, to attend a
day-long program in honor of
State Commander Harold H.
Rodgers. Chappell rode in a con-
vertible during the parade as YT'f UL
one of the visiting dignitaries. Saturday, August 19.

Attendants Told
Refugio.—The attendants for
the marriage of Miss Linda Wil-
liams and John Jordan of Kelly
Air Force Base, ,San Antonio,
were announced this week.
Miss Judy Williams, sister of
the bride, will serve as maid of
honor. Bridesmaids will be Miss
Janet Jackson and Miss Brenda
Heflin.
Serving his brother as best
man will be Ronnie Jordan of
Woodsboro. Keith Barnhill and
Wayne Schubert, both Of Woods-
boro, will be groomsmen. Ush-
ers will be Mike Williams,
brother of the bride, of Pala-
cios; Philip Jordan, brother of
the groom, and Chris Naylor
and David Boerner, all of
Woodsboro.

During the 1967-68 VFW year,
Chappell will make numerous
trips and appearances as [De-
partment Junior Vice Command-
er. A Life Member of Refugio
County Post 6290, he will serve
this year as Community Service
Chairman for the state organi-
zation.
Ann Dwyer Circle
Meets August 8
Refugio. — The Ann Dwyer
Circle met in the home of Mrs.
Bill Jenkins Tuesday, August 8
for a circle program. The meet-
ing was opened with prayer led
by Mrs. R. L. Acrea.
Mrs. Acrea, Mrs. Jenkins,
Mrs. A. W. Barham and Mrs.
Cecil Randle had parts on the
program, “Changing Gatholic-
Protestant Relationships In
Spain and U.S.” The meeting
was closed with prayer by Mrs.
Jenkins. Following the program
refreshments were served to five
members present.
Parents of the bride-elect are
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hamilton
Williams. The groom is the son
of Mrs. Hershel Naylor of
Woodsboro and Earl Jordan of
Mission Hills, California.

Circle Meeting
Refugio.—The Juanita Harper
Circle met Tuesday morning,
August 8 in the home of Mrs.
Bill Allen. Mrs. A. M. Kelley
gave the Call To Prayer and
Mrs. Ray Gilliam opened the
meeting with prayer prior to a
short business meeting and pro-
gram.
Parts on the program, “Chang-
ing Catholic-Protestant Relation-
ships in Spain and U.S.,” were
given by Mrs. Roy Wright, Mrs.
Gilliam, and Mrs. Kelley. After
discussion of the program the
meeting was closed with prayer
by Mrs. Allen. Four members
present were served refresh-
ments by the hostess.
Well, its just about time for
all those good ole school bells to
ring out once more.
Patty Hepburn and her family
are planning to visit Mexico a
couple of days next week.
There haven’t been many
dances lately but after school
starts things might pick up.
Rozzie Skeen is visiting her
cousins in Pearsall. It seems
she was having so much fun
that she decided to stay another
week.
Jane Moore plans to return to
Refugio August 23, after her
long stay in Dallas.
The cheerleaders have cer-
tainly done more than good at
camp. They got three firsts, one
second and one third. They
broke the Refugio Cheer Lead-
ers Record. They all said they
enjoyed it but it was rather
rough at times.
The Youth Rodeo this past
week end really seemed to be a
success. There were so many
cowboys and cowgirls in town.
Congratulations to Allen and
Joyce Schultz. They were Mon-
day night. It certainly was a
beautiful wedding.
Cindy Lawson attended Stu-
dent Council Workshop in
Nachogdoches last week. Ber-
nadine Slomchinski, Stephen
Scanio, Lydia Bundren and Judy
Williams attended workshop at
Trinity University in San An-
tonio. Everyone said they en-
joyed the workshop and learned
a lot.
The Refugio Coaches are back
in town from Coaching School
in San Antonio.
Carol Bricker is moving some-
time before school starts.
Ruth Ann Schubert has mov-
ed to Portland.
Kathy Crutchfield entered
Memorial Hospital, in Corpus
Christi, Monday morning where
she will undergo surgery.
Joe Ernest is back from vaca-
tioning in Rockport.
Sandra Johnston is staying in
Mathis and will return some
time next week.
The Senior Band members
had a meeting with the new
Band Director, Mr. Garner, Sat-
urday.
That’s all til next week. Bye.
