A James W. Fannin Middle School
teacher won the 7th grade history
teacher recognition given by the
Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Kenna DuBose of Fannin is the
teacher winner. On March 1 the Palo
Duro Chapter said she had won the
immediate area award and would be
judgedagainstentricsfrom four other
chapters in District 10.
Chi March 15 she was notified that
she had won the District 10 Chapter
and will now be judged from entries
received from the remaining nine
districts to determine the state win-
ner.
DuBose, daughter of Tye and Iris
Godwin of Tulia, is a 1975 graduate
of Tulia High School, where she was
editor of theyearbookand was named
Most Outstanding Female Athlete in
1975, following a district title in
tennis. She earned a bachelor of sci-
ence degree in history and physical
education in 1979 from Texas Tech
University in Lubbock.
She taught Texas history and
coached in Brownfield for three years.
For the next eight years, she pursued
a career in studio photography.
Returning to teaching in 1990, she
moved to Amarillo, where she taught
U.S. history and coached tennis at
Palo Duro High School. In 1997, she
began teaching Texas history at
Fannin Middle School. Still teach-
ing at Fannin, she is seeking a mas-
ters degree at West Texas A&M Uni-
versity. She has one son, Kenton,
who is 13 years old.
Rocky and Beth Rexrode of Sunray announce the engagement and
approaching marriage of their daughter, Amber Rexrode, to Heath Kimbrell
of Sunray. He is the son of Don and Carolyn Kimbrell.
The bride-elect will graduate in May from Sunray High School. The groom
is a 1998 graduate of Sunray High School and is currently farming.
The couple plan to be married June 5 at the Serendipity House in Dumas.

On March 15 the 4-H Horse Club
met. Matthew Cruse called this meet-
ing to order. Walter Noel led the
American Pledge and Christopher
Gibsonledthe4-HMottoandPledgc.
The program was Ronnie Tyson
doing some amazing tricks with his
b’ullwhips. With his helpers holding
a paper, he sliced it in two with his
bullwhip. It was neat and very loud!
On Saturday, March 20, we will
havea beginners horsemanship clinic
starting at 9 a.m. The first Big 5
Horse Show is April 10,so be getting
your horses ready!
If you are interested in the photog-
raphy contest your pictures need to
be turned into the Extension office
by March 25.
The first Livestock Judging prac-
tice will be sometime soon. If y6u'
are interested contact Michael
Clawson at the Extension office. The
Horse Club parent meeting will be
Saturday, March 20 and will start at
3 p.m.
TFWC Progressive Study Club
met in the home of Jessie Rawson
with fourteen members and two
guests present.
Thepledgeto the flag was led by
GlennaCrooks.LucillcBarbourgave
the prayer. She then presented the
Inspirational, "More Smart Strate-
gies for Health and Happiness."
Thank you notes were read from
Jan Irlbeck and the library.
It was announced that Lucille
Barbour, Glenna Crooks, Mary Del
Toles and Ka Wilfong will represent
the club at the District meeting in
Lubbock, March 27. Each member
brought a child’s book to be taken to
Lubbock.
Lydia Bean entertained the group
with singing, "Turn Around," and "I
Want to Go Home," which was writ-
ten by her father, Alan Bean. She is
the club's candidate for the TFWC
Musical Penny Arts Scholarship.
Mary Del Toles presented the
program, "Food That Prevents Dis-
ease." Some herbal medicines are
beneficial for different things but
you want to be sure they do not
interact with medication you might
be taking and should be used cau-
tiously. The more healthy foods to
eat are low fat and should contain
vegetables, fruits, and whole grain.
Exercise also plays a big part in
maintaining your health.

Franciso and Brenna Ramirez are
proud to announce the birth of their
daughter, Celeste Angelita Ramirez,
bom March 13,1999 at 12:21 a.m. at
Covenant Hospital Plainview.
Celeste weighed in at 7 lbs. 14 oz.
and was 201/2 inches long. She has
a sister, Cassidy, and a half-brother,
Dylan.
