A flint Wltli Nat, the Ice Man
Nat slipped into the kitchen and
Htr.od waiting for the kitchen maid
to arrange the refrigerator for the
fiesh consignment of ice. "It is
kind of you." said the maid, look-
ing up, her hands full of dishes, "to
ftand there and hold your dripping
ice over that beautiful rug. Other-
wise. you might dampen the kitch-
en floor." "No trouble at all," re-
plied Nat, "we aim to please our
customers. Don't hurry about get-
ting that Ice box ready. If the Ice
in the wagon melts while I am up
here I can drive back and get some
more." Oh, don't mind me." said
the kitchen maid, her face growing
red, "just crowd right up there and
throw the ice on top of the cream
and fruit. It Is not large enough
to do much damage." "Of course
not," replied Nat, "we are going to
sell a ton for five cents next week.
People who have three cents worth
of oleomargarine and skimmed milk
all at cne time require plenty of
Ice." "Certainly," said the kitch-
en maid, "It is very thoughtful of
you, I'm sure. Where do you get
that kind of Ice? Don't you think
its condition might be improved by
the addition of a little coloring mat-
ter? Then, too, if It was somewhat
longer it would look like an oys-
ter egg." "That's a new one on me."
snid Nat. "but I will have it fixed
for you the next time I come. Any
time you want lillles or the valley
wound around the ice just mention
it. These Guymon shacks look bet-
ter when properly decorated." "Oh.
we have plenty or flowers." replied
the maid, "when this this rich com-
iw>und you sell for Ice melts It then
leaves a rich, dark deposit In the
refrigerator. Flowers grow nicely
in it." "Now," said Nat, "you may
put your stuff back In the refriger-
ator. If you have a folding bed or
cottage organ or coal stove or some-
thing of that sort, you might put it
In here on top of the ice. I can
bring a couple of men with me and
move It out in the morning." "I
think we will get along without that
this time," replied the maid. "The
woman next door uaes your Ice to
generate heat for baking, but this
Is not a steel ice box. I have to use
gas. If you like you may bring me
some ice tomorrow. The black
muck this ice melts into is a little
heavy for my plants. There must
be some sand near the mud hole you
get your water you make your Ice
out of." "Plenty of it." said Nat.
"I'll send you a 50-foot lot with a
fence around It as soon as you pay
the bill for month before last. Any
lady having a taste for farming de-
serves to be encouraged." "Never
mind that," said the maid, "I have
been selling the real estate you leave
on your boots. If you have time

you might bring some saw dust.
We are about out of fuel." "How

delivery." "When you walk off the

"I'll tell him," said Nat, "and don't
forget to have the butter fumigated.
I'll bring you a new pipe tomorrow.
I promised the neighbors I would."
Nat then went his way with that
