Have You Noticed...
By Michael Waits Sr, Pastor, First Baptist Crandall
...how some of the best and her, even from childhood, these
most easily remembered Bible
stories are ones where there was
a “sign”. The word “sign” as used
in the Bible has several meanings,
but all tend to align with “token”
or a truth not yet revealed or un-
derstood. Jesus used signs to con-
vey to the people walking around
the 1st century Israel that He was
in fact, exactly who He said He
was. The Son of God and the Son
of Man, the fulfillment of the Old
Testament promises that a Savior
would come and redeem His peo-
ple. Well, think about the feeding
of the five thousand with a few
loaves of bread and some dried
fish. This was a sign of a very
important truth that Jesus pro-
vides all that anyone then or now
would ever or could ever possibly
need; the sign prompted people
to make a decision how they’d
respond to this revealed truth of
Jesus’ identity. Just like when you
are driving an unfamiliar road
at night and there is a sign that
reveals the road makes a sharp
turn just ahead. You will have to
either heed the sign and slow for
the curve, or you’ll try unsuccess-
fully to make the turn yield to
your vehicle and break the laws
of physics to leave you unscathed
from the wreck.
So why do we tend to remem-
amazing stories where there was
a sign from God. I think it is be-
cause we truly, down deep, know
there is a God. And that under-
standing makes us long to renew
the broken relationship our souls
know we had with Him before the
fall in the Garden of Eden. And
we long to be able to trust in Him
completely. There is a sense I sus-
pect, of just wanting to go home,
being granted full and complete
rest in His loving security from
the wild oscillation of this world.
Bible stories where there is a great
and wonderful sign of God’s love
for us and His power. And there is
very good news friend. The Gos-
pel of Christ Jesus says that you
can in fact have that sense of re-
newed relationship with the One
who made you; with the One who
loves you more than anyone else
can. Can you see a sign in your
life? Not only a sign of the times
but a sign that God loves you and
has provided for you. You can
count on the truth of these reas-
suring words, not because a man
says them, but because God says
them in His word. Go to someone
you trust that knows this Jesus
personally. Share with them your
desire to renew your relationship
with the Lord...
You’ll be glad vou did.
