WWI ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month 80 years ago. None of the survivors
who lived in Swisher County are alive today. The last known survivor was Elmo Speers, who died
three years ago. Leo Gardner’s induction papers are a memento of his service, and are a reminder
of the sacrifices made by those who served their country.
