Poster winners
Five Seminole school students were judged winners in the
annual fire safety poster contest sponsored by the Seminole
Volunteer Firemen. The winners were presented their awards
by firemen Earnie Taylor and Keith Lammons. At the awards
presentation were, from left, Taylor, Sara Rixon, Laura Rios,
Chris Davis, Christina Rcddekop and Cory Hand.

Winners in the annual fire
safety poster contest, sponsored
by the Seminole Volunteer Fire
Department, received trophies
and certificates last week.
Three third graders, a fourth
grader and a fifth grader were the
top finishers in the competition,
which included almost 100
entries.
First in the third grade was
Chris Davis, while Christina
Reddekop was second and Cory
Hand took third.
Sara Rixon, a fourth grader.
was first in the fourth and fifth
grade division, while Laura Rios,
a fifth grader, was second.
Volunteer firemen Earnie
Taylor and Keith Lammons
presented the trophies and
certificates to the students.

Services for Jean Florence, 61,
of Seminole were held at 2 p.m.
SC meet is
cancelled
The Seminole Senior Citizens
met for a luncheon Wednesday,
with 29 members attending.
The group was scheduled to
meet for its monthly birthday
party Thursday night, but the
event was cancelled due to
inclement weather.
The group will meet at 6 p.m.
Thursday for its combination
Thanksgiving and Christmas
dinner.
The group meets every
Tuesday at 10 p.m. for canasta and
at 9 a.m. on Mondays,
Wednesdays and Fridays for
exercise sessions.

Burial was in Gaines County
Cemetery under direction of
Singleton Funeral Home.
She died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday
at Seminole Nursing Center after
a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Florence was born in Fort
Worth and married Dan Florence
April 17, 1947 in Lubbock. She
was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband;
two sons, Dan Jr. of Odessa and
Preston DeWaync of Spring; a
daughter, Marie Hawley of
Denver City; three sisters, Jo
Brown of Lubbock; Margaret
Murphy of Andrews and Polly
House; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Larry
Malcom, Bill Wcscott, Bobby
Davis, Larry Borjas, Tom Rogers
and George Crisly.
Honorary pallbearers were
Dayton Elam and William C.
Curry.

Former local is critical
Debra McAden, 26, of
Midland, daughter of Eldon and
Annette Graves of Seminole, was
listed in "critical" condition at
Midland Memorial Hospital as of
presstime Friday as the result of
an accident Thursday morning in
Midland.
According to the public
information office of the Midland
Police Department, Mrs. McAden
was headed east in a Chevrolet
Blazer in the 4600 block of
Norlhgate Street in Midland
shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday
and was turning to the north on
Briarwood Street when she
apparently lost control of the
vehicle and slid into the path of
an oil-drilling transport truck,
which was headed south on
Briarwood.
According to the hospital’s
public relations office, the woman
