NEWS FROM JOY
Joy, July 23—The local W. II. D.
club met last Monday with Mrs. Joe
Hancock as hostess. A very pleasant
and profitable afternoon was spent,
at the conclusion of which the hostess
served iced watermelon. The club
voted to send two delegates to the A.
& M. College Short Course The one
receiving the most votes were Mrs.
W. R. Fincher and Mrs. W. M. Philpot.
Nine of the members of the club at-
tended the County Encampment which
washeld in Tyler recently. The next
meeting will be held with Mrs. Lee.
People are laying by their crops and
some have finished.
Mrs. Meberly from Wilson, Okla.,
spent a few days with her sister. Mrs.
Fincher, recently.
Jesse Gary and family from near
Gladewater spent Tuesday with his
brother, Judson.
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Fincher and
Mrs. Moberly spent last Sunday with
their brother, J. M. Merritt, near
Gladewater.
Mrs. J. H. Gary and Rebekah Gary
from Starrville and Beverly Bryant
from Waco were guests of Hal and
Judson Gary, recently.
Mrs. Basham and daughters from
Dallas visiting her daughter, Mrs.

tor in the B. I. Castle home a few days

DIXIE NEWS BREVITIES
Divie, July 25—The community pic-
nic held here Wednesday was largely
attended. Everyone enjoyed the poli-
tical speakings and especially the
good lunch which was served. Many
from this community went to the big
picnic and political rally at Edom
Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Kennedy enter-
tained the young people of Dixie Wed-
nesday night with a party. Saturday
night’s entertainment was at the home
of W. R. Reel.
Several from Dixie went to New
Harmony Sunday afternoon to witness
the baptizing.
Mr. and Mrs. William Futch of
West Texas are visiting relatives and
friends here.
Prof, and Mrs. Wright A. Dunn
were called to Lufkin Sunday because
of the serious illness of Mrs. Dunn’s
grandmother.

Dean (Rt. 2, Tyler), July 23—The
people here Were greatly grieved to
learn of the death of Charlie Powell
which was caused by a chimney falling
on him Friday, July 20. This useful
and noble man will be greatly missed
in this community.
Homer Mays pased away Thursday.
His remains were taken to Graham,
Texas for burial.
Jerry Shiflet spent the past week
visiting at Noonday.
Monroe Warnell, Jester Warnell and
Boyce Lidell of Corsicana spent the
