3 The Bellaire City Council
- Jj|n one fell swoop Monday
i*. * fight passed a series of
municipal traffic ordinances.
.» *4 A “Bus Parking Only -
One Hour Limit” zone was
*• “treated to facilitate loading
Of Bellaire High School
'students, the loading zone is
located along the west side
of South Rice Avenue, ex-
. _ pending 200 feet north from
the Maple Street curbline.
► . In a related ordinance, the
5100 block of Maple has
^gbeen limited to westbound
traffic only from 1:30 p.m. to
'^3:30 p.m. on weekdays.
JjL In requesting these two
^ordinances, Bellaire Police
^Chief Jerry Loftin described
the traffic problem around

I, three-fold:
a “Number one, parents are
^trying to double park in
border to pick up students ...
jjgTraffic is reduced to one
Ipane.
“Number two, there is not

they are blocking traffic.
“Number three, student
“ vehicles exiting the Maple
'“"‘‘‘Street side of the back

!#Our mistake
Last week the Texan un-
wittingly reported that the
1982-83 Christmas holidays
for HISD schools begin Dec.
16. The correct date is Dec.
18.
Anytime you get
20 mayors,
the Watergate prosecutor,
16 Chambers of Commerce,
theAFL-OO
& the County
Commissioner's Court
all agreeing on one issue,
there's gotta be
a good explanation.
In this case, a pretty good one. The
No-Tax Increase County Bonds. Up
for election passage on February 23rd.
Politicians Rarely Agree.
Especially when different interests are
being represented. Especially when
you’re talking about a divergence of
Democrats, Republicans, Indepen-
dents, Liberals and Conservatives.
But on the question of the Harris
County Bonds, they do agree. As do
most civic leaders in our community.
Because the Bonds will benefit every-
one. Now, and for years to come. By
delivering new, and widened roads,
expanded flood control channels and
projects, parks, libraries, new law-
enforcement substations, and public
service facilities. County-wide.
No Tax Increase Means
No Tax Increase.
The County Bond Program is a five-
year plan that won’t increase taxes
by a single penny.
That’s guaranteed by the Harris
County Auditor, an independent
official.
So Remember The 23rd
A Tuesday. And remember to vote/or all
of the County Bonds.
For the good of us all.
A wide cross-section of Harris County govern-
ments and organizations have come forward to
endorse the County Bonds, including:
ORGANIZATIONS
Clear Lake Council of Cities
The AFL-CIO
The Governor’s Flood Control Task Force
The Harris County Council of Organizations
The Houston North Planning Association
The Harris County Fire Fighters Association
The Texas Society of Engineers
And many others too numerous to mention
