The cost of swimming will
increase in Bellaire this
summer, while pool hours
will be slightly shorter.
The cost of a single youth
ticket will increase from $10
to $15. Individual tickets for
adults will remain at $15.
The customary, flat, fam-
ily rate of $25 gives way to a
new rate schedule which
charges $15 for one season
pass, $25 for two, and
another $5 for each addition-
al pass a family buys.
For the first time, season
tickets will be available to
non-Bellaire residents, but
only at the Bellaire Park
pool, not for Evergreen Pool.
Non-residents will pay the
following prices under the
new family plan: $25 for one
ticket, $50 for two, $60 for
three, and $10 for each
additional season pass.
Based on 1981 season
ticket figures, the new rate
schedule would bring in
about $5,000 additional rev-
enue, according to Park and
Recreation Dept, officials.
Daily admission prices
will also be hiked. Bellaire
youths will pay 75 cents,
compared to 50 cents last
year; non-Bellaire youths
will pay $1, an increase of 50
cents. Prices for Bellaire
adults are up from $1 to
$1.25, while non-Bellaire
adults’ fees increase from $1
to $1.50.
The fee increases are
attributed primarily to fut-
ure pool maintenance needs.
The last time the city raised
season-pass rates was in
1974.
The 1982 swimming sea-
son will run from mid-May
until the end of September.
Bellaire Pool will be open
from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

GENUINE POLITICAL BRAVERY
is the only phrase I know to describe a council whose communication lines are as open
to press and pu blic as the present Bellaire residential group. They knew in advance that
listed phones invite occasional abusive calls, that free access and cooperation with the
press would (nowand then) lead to embarassing stories; and most of all, thattelevising
council meetings live would give opponents a field day. Butthey did all those things
and a newsletter and calendartoo (thanks, Pauline McRae), because voters deserve the
truth - warts and all.
