('ailed the Angel of San, Antonio: the beautiful Lottie pitted her
skill with cards in the, elegant and notorious gambling halls of Old Sari
Antonio before moving on to Old Fort Griffin where, shrouded in mystery,
she played a lonely hand with the most notori us gamblers of the frontier.
Amid surroundings pop .dated by such characters as “iJoc” Holliday,
John Holman, Wyatt Karp, and Big Nose Kale, to say nothing of the
minor ilk, cowboys, buffalo hunters, renegades and cut-throats of every
description, Lottie D.ono gambled nightly in the dens of the Flat below
the frowning guns of Fort Griffin on the hill overlooking the rowdy
town. She won more often than she lost, and legend has it that when
she mysteriously left 'Griffin there was $30,000:00 snugly tucked away
in a little leather trunk'that was'one of the few possessions she carried
away on her silent departure.
The Story of LOTT1K Dh'NO presents an accurate picture of hell-
roaring Old Fort Griffih, beside which Dodge City would appear aneamic.
With truth and conviction, J. Marvin Hunter, in his last biographical
work. telK The Story of I//1T1K DKNO, all ninety years o‘ it.
