Getting it all together...

By Marie Moynahan
Texan Columnist
Why be organized?
We hear so much about
being organized today-
getting it together. Why
is all this so important?
Or is it?
Granted we cannot do
everything by ourselves,
nor are we expected to.
We need help, but
remember this what we
alone can do nobody on
earth can do.
Linda Strohmeyer
who has served nu-
merous businesses
through her marketing
and promotion career
currently is practicing
in-house training classes
designed to meet
specific objectives and
has mastered the art of
helping people get
organized-be it in
home, office, finances or
relationships.
Adamantly stating
that being disorganized
is expensive, costing
you plenty in terms of
time, money, produc-
tivity, satisfaction and
energy, she says,
“Many people resist
change but if you are
less than enchanted with
your status quo, then
change is inevitable. “
In her class “Let’s
Get Organized,” she
begins with a master
checklist explaining
that, "Over the years I
have discovered that the
best place to first
establish order is with
yourself.
"List making is a
must,” she says. “Your
list becomes a plan to
handle the item when
the time and money are
allocated to take care of
it. Also by simply
making a list of the tasks
which need to be
handled, you can stop
this out-flow of energy
and still live with this
incompletion without
being drained by it.”
In Strohmeyer’s
classes many basic prin-
ciples and details are
studied. To mention a
few for instance: in her
study of business she
believes titheing the 10
percent to be signifi-
cant; in her personal,
the car and its neatness
is included and in the
home study the return of
what is borrowed is
mentioned.
One might think at
first-why do all this?
What the heck? We’re
not out to make an
impression? Right?
However after you learn
the effect that clutter,
negative relationships
and unfinished business
can have on your pro-
gress you will see the
importance of order per
Epictetus said, “The
road to hell is paved
with good intentions”
and he knew the binding
power of habits once
formed plus the difficul-
ty of changing them.
How easy it is to
habitually put things off,
collect and save things
Her proudest achieve-
ment is as founder of the
Executive Advisory
Council started in 1979,
an informal support
network now spreading
throughout Houston and
the United States.
On the subject of
organizing she
recommends the follow-
ing books: “Check List
for a Working Wife;”
“Sidetracked Home
Executive;” “ Every -
woman’s Guide to Time
Management” and
“How to Get Control of
Your Time and Your
Life.”
After all, success,
order and accomplish-
ment are synonymous,
and Strohmeyer believes
that you can have
anything you want and
backs that with results.

we never use or need-
-even people we don’t
need around us and we
are not able to help.
“Eliminating the
draining, demanding,
depressing possessions,
clothes, people, from
your environment will
only serve to raise your
energy level and
increase your personal
productivity,” she says.
“Don’t become a
slave to your posses-
sions, and don’t let them
own you. If they don’t
raise your level of
aliveness, get rid of
them.” She credits
Buddha as saying the
less you have, the less
you have to worry
about.
The most important
reason for keeping order
she says is that your
mind will not begin
working on your success
patterns if you allow
your environment to be
in a state of disorder.
Strohmeyer’s prac-
tical experience in
helping others succeed
comes via a career with
Marketing Services
Management (a market-
ing consulting firm). She
is a former vice-pres-
ident of the Museum of
Medical Science, past-
president of the Spain
and Texan Society,
Development Board
Director of Allied Me-
morial Bank, Director
of Theatre on Wheels,
and the Advisory Board
of the Peace Project.
