‘‘Another Amos Rusie,” is the way
the Cub outfit talk about Fred Toney.
He possesses a huge, powerful frame
and has speed to burn when working.
But Chance hasn’t given Toney an
opportunity (o spoil himself. His drat
lesson in the Chance school was to
learn how to pitch a fast breaking
ball overhand, and Mordeoai Brown
taught him this In rapid manlier. And
not only has he been coached by
Brown, but Jimmy Archer. Tom Need-
ham and Johnny Kling have been at
work preparing Toney for tho bill.
Chance took Toney around the east-
ern circuit, not to work him regularly,
but to givo him n chance to look over
the array of hitters that a pitcher
most face In a long siege. Toney is
an observing youngster and the trip
did him a world of good. He has got
accustomed to the great crowds and
the novelty of his first trip in bi*
league company has worked off.
In all probability Chance will us»
Toney quite frequently when he geti
settled down. Toney la anxious tc
display his wonderful speed, and th«
care that Chance has taken in pre
paring him for this Summer’s cam
patgn Is certain to prove advantage
ous when the Tennessee giant strike*
bis stride.

own predictions His hitting and
fielding have been tine, and his base
ruluting and general versatility in a
game make him a most pleasing fig-
ure in the line-up.
It does .good to lose once in a while.
The question is, should the ball be
blamed?
ftoy Oorhan appears to be the sen-
sation of the season.
These hitting bees have an unset-
tling effect upon managers.
At last Cornlskey has a ball team
which is playing first-class ball.
Paul Me loan continues to make him-
self solid with the 8t. Louis fans.
Jimmy Callahan Is proving every
day that he has "come back” to stay.
Even Christy Mathewson gets hts
drubbings In these days of the lively
ball.
Manager Tenney believes the cast
off Cubs are good enough to help the
Doves.
The cork center bail will make life
miserable for pitchers and outfielders
thin season. *•
Only the size of the grounds Is keep-
ing Ping Bodle from breaking Into the
home run column.
If Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford were
on speaking terms, perhaps the results
would he different.
Reulbach is still a member of the
Cubs’ staff, and Is beginning to look
like a real pitcher these hot days.
Frank Schulte is7 peeved since all
these National leaguers began to
usurp Iris title as the-"home run kid.”
Briscoe Lord does duty in the left

Mexienns Celebrate Diaz Victory.
City of Mexico, Jutie 21.—Elab-
orate precautions were taken by the
Provisional government to prevent
any disorderly demonstrations to-
day on the occasion of the anniver-
sary celebration in memory of the
tttkrng of the City of Mexico by the
forces of Gen. Diaz, June 21, 1867.
For many years the anniversary
has been observed as a holiday in
the capital. The fall of the City of
Mexico to the Liberal troops under
Ocn. Diaz marked the last blow to
the Imperialists and practically
ended the long war of the Napol-
eonic invasion.

When, Where and How Will You Bury Your Family
WHEN?—This question i< unanswerable; we all hope it will
not be until some time in the distant future, but many are bury-
ing their dear ones today; you may tomorrow.
WHERE?—This question may be answered by some; the
famly burying ground is a sacred spot to many families, an several
dear ones are already there and others will he by and by.
HOW?—This Is the important question that is worthy of your
consideration now. Today death in your family may seem far in
the future. But what may happen tomorrow? When death
comes in your family, yon MUST think about burial then. My
life work has been the embalming and earing for*the dead.. My
stock is large and complete. I am qualified and prepared to
ship bodies to any part of the world.
Ouloffice is open all night and we answer calls promptly
