THE LYRIC
TODAY AND TOMORROW— *
—No need to dwell on this one. It has broken house
records wherever shown and is now generally conceded the
biggest box-office bet of the new season. Valentino acts
wonderfully and gets superb support from Lila Lee and
Nita Naldi. “Blood and Sand’’ is a romantic love tale of a
great toreador, popular hero of thousands, conqueror of mad-
dened beasts, conquered by a woman’s glance. The spec-
tacular bull ring scenes, the wealth of detail, the superb act-
ing and wonderful direction mark this one in a class by itself.

PYTHIAN LADS REPEAT ON

A MUCH LARGER SCORE
J. R. MITCHELL, DIST. CLERK
IgOW GRANDFATHER—DENIES
IMITATING SCOTT JORDAN
A fine baby boy was born to Mr. and
Mrs. Will Miller this week, at their
home in North Weatherford, thereby
creating a brand new GRAND-PA in
the person of District Clerk Juo. R.
Mitchell. Mitchell's office is just
across the hall from County Treasurer
Scott Jordan, who also became a
grand pappa a few days ago. Mitchell
stoutly denies that he is trying to im-
itate the county treasurer, and asserts
that he is by far the best looking
Cramp of the two.
The Pythian Home football lads
humbled the Junior High football
squad for the second time this season
when they shut them out Wednesday
afternoon by the score of 32 to 0. The
score in the first game was 19 to 0
and naturally the Pythians are feeling
'somewhat chesty over their prowess.
The Pythians are light weights. Could
they adorn themselves with twenty-
five or thirty pounds more weight,
and still retain that same scrappy pep
and sprinting ability, we would feel
like inviting T. C. U. or A. & M. over
for a scrimmage. The Pythian boys
say they are going to make it a unani-
mous season, by winning a total of
overy game played. Some idea—back-
ed by some team.

Circus day in Weatherford brought

The town was filled almost to capacity

not only to see the circus, but to buy
goods as well. Every merchant in
town reported a great day’s business.
The A1 G. Barnes Circus was not a
disappointment. All who saw it, and

us, said that considering its size, they
had never seen a better show. Many!
people were greatly disappointed, be-
cause there was no parade, and all
kinds of rumors are afloat as to the
cause of this. One of these rumors is
to ihe effect that the city officials
would not allow the parade to be
held. There is no truth in this state-
ment. So far as the city was concern-
ed. there was nothing to prevent the
parade from being held. If the circus
people made any explanation, we have
not heard of it, but we do know that
the circus met with difficulties which
delayed them greatly. In the first
place, it was late arriving in Weath-
erford, and then the high winds which
blew nearly all day made it impossible
to raise the big tent. The show was
finally hold with only the walls of the
tent up and these almost blew away.
With all this trouble, the afternoon
performance did not begin until about
three o'clock. The parade could not
be held and still leave enough time to
give the show.
At the afternoon show, the circus

had a full house, every seat was taken.
At the night performance, there was
also a large crowd. It was a very
good and a very successful show. The
only regret was that the parade was
not held, and it seems that this fail-
ure was due entirely to conditions.

One of the horse trainers in charge
of the educated horses of the A1 G.
Barnes Shows, was very seriously in-
jured Thursday night when one of the
'horses becoming angry, clamped its
teeth on the man’s arm just below the
shoulder. The muscles were torn
away and the bone fractured. A local
surgeon was called to assist the show
physician and the trooper was given
an ancstetic before dressing and sew-
ing up the wound.
