SANTA ARRIVES ABOARD THE FIRE TRUCK AT THE CAROL TREE
Sunday afternoon a large crowd of bright eyed children gathered at the Court House lawn to see Santa Claus arrive aboard the
Fitv. Truck.
Beautiful Christmas carols filled the air when the gathering sang the old familiar Christmas music accompanied by the High
School band and choir directed by Mr. Kole.
following the carol singing Santa distributed his small gifts for each child.

Mrs. Fannie Gabriel, who was
buried in the Vanderpdol Ceme-
tery last Wednesday, was sur-
vived by six children, Hamil’on,
of Portland, Texas: 0. C., Fred,
George, Mrs. Essie Wedgeworth,
and Mrs. Pearl Reynolds, all of
California; also four half-broth-
ers and three half-sisters; John-
nie, Francis, Curley, and Lon,
all of Vanderpool, Mrs. Annie
Penham, of Helotes, Mrs. Lela
Wood, Dilley, and Mrs. Jewette
Morris of Kerrville.
Mr. William Mosley of Hous-
ton has been selected as the new
pastor of the Utopia Baptist
Church. He has a wife and five
children.
Visitors in the Ira Reavis home
over the week-end were Mr. and
Mrs. Hazel Anderwaid report-
ed today that she has received
word that her grandson, Johnny
Anderwaid, has arrived in Frank-
furt, Germany, with the United
States Army for a tour of duty
until June 190!). Johnny visited
here for several days and left
Sunday, December 3, for Fort
Dix where he received his over-
seas orders, lie will he inter-
ested to hear from his friends
here.
BANDERA CHAMBER OF
COMMERCE MAKES PLANS
FOR HEMISFAIR YEAR
The Bandera Chamber of Com-
merce met in the Community
Room of the First State Bank
Monday evening for a good and
interesting meeting. The meet-
ing was well attended, according
to Johnny Boyle, president.
Dance tickets were passed out
for the dance which the Cham-
ber of Commerce will sponsor on
December 22.
A committee of six was ap-
pointed to coordinate plans for
entertainment for visitors dur-
ing the HemisFair year. Plans
were discussed for rodeos and
many other types of entertain-
ment. and also tours to places of
interest ^ the county. Also
planned was a calendar of events
and a map to he placed in busi-
ness houses and filling stations.
ATTEND FUNERAL OF
BROTHER-IN-LAW
Mrs. Henrietta Kruckcmeyer
and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kalka went
to Boerne Friday to attend fun-
eral services fo.r Mrs. Krucke-
meyer's brother-in-law, Julius
Kruckcmeyer of Bergheim, who
passed away on Wednesday of
last week. Mr. Kruckcmeyer
was 78 years of age and he died
in the hospital in New Braunfels.
Survivors include one sister,
Mrs. Emma Stahl, of San An-
tonio and a number of nieces and
nephews.

Reavis and Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Campbell,' all of San Antonio.
Miss Gillie Reavis and sister,
Mrs. Dale Moseley of Campwood

Mrs. Lucille Matthew's pre-
sented a piano recital Sunday af-
ternoon. Her pupils are Yvette
Edgerton, Patty Campbell, Bren-
da Roman, Cindy Thompson,
Cathy Boyce. Diane Hicks, Ever-
ette Boyce, Stephanie Campbell,
Jilarm Hicks, Lydia Taylor,
Diane Hab.v, and Jud.y McFadin.
Mr. Ed Stein and the Uvalde
College Choir presented a pro-
gram at the Utopia School Audi-
torium on Tuesday, December 12.
Utopia FFA Greenhands won
1st place in the quiz contest held
in Hondo. Members of the team
were Everette Boyce. Bill Leigh-
ton, Jack Pieston, Johnny Moore

town spent last week-end here
with his moth\*r, Mrs. Henrietta
Kruckemeyer.
MRS. VIRGIL JONES
PASSED AWAY
Mrs. Lillith Mariam Jones, ago
76, of Center Point, Texas, died
Sunday in a Comfort, Texas, hos-
pital. Mrs. Jones lived in the
Camp Verde and Center Point
Community for 35 years. She
was a native of DeQuincy, La.
Funeral services were held
Monday at the Country Church
near Center Point, with burial in
the Center Point Cemetery under
the direction of Plummer-Fair
Funeral Home of Kerrville.
Survivors are the husband,
Virgil Jones, a son, Kenneth
Jones, and two grandchildren, all
of Center Point; two sisters,
Mrs. Alfred Bierschwale of
Llano and Mrs. C. V'. Eiland of
Houston; lour brothers, G. F.
Robertson, J. M. Robertson, H.
J. Robertson and C. G. Robert-
son, all of Houston.
Mrs. Jones had many friends
in this community who will be
grieved to learn of her passing.

•BLUE LOTUS'* EXERCISE
USS Jouett.—Chief Fire Con-
troll Technician Jack V. Wataon,
USN, sort of Mr and Mr*. J. V.
Watson of 6705 Roos Road,
Houston. Texas, and husband of
the former Miss Bobbie R Wyatt
of Bandera, Texas, participated
in "Blue Lotus,” the largest U.S.
First Fleet Exercise in three
years, aboard the guided misaile
frigate USS Jouett.
The exercise was held off the
coast of Southern California from
November 28 to December 9. It
involved 24,900 men in 45 ship*,
and six air units.
The strike force phase of the
exercise involved maneuvers to
train participating ships in the
type of Naval warfare, for which
they were designed. The am-
phibious phase of the exerciae
involved an actual amphibious
assault at Camp Pendleton, f alif.,
by an embarked Marine Expedi-
tionary Brigade.
Exercise highlights Include
surface-to-air missile firings at
drone targets, live rocket and
bombing attacks on the Kan
Clemente and Chocolate Mountain
impact ranges, and Naval air
strikes to sink target ships.
