Wesleyan's second annual Mass
Communication Week culminates
Friday with a convocation and
social outing at Lake Worth for
Mass Communication majors and
minors.
All Mass Communication ma-
jors and minors should attend
the 2 p.m. convocation In the
Science Lecture Theater Friday,
April 22. Imimrtant information
about academic matters and ca-
reer planning will be dissemi-
nated at the convocation. It will
also be a rare opportunity for
some 70 Mass Comm majors
and minors to gather in a single
location and get to know each
other better.
Immediately after the con-
vocation a caravan will depart
for Dr. Sewell’s Lake Worth
home for an afternoon of fun,
sun and camaraderie. The outing
is free, sponsored by the Depart-
ment of Mass Communication
and the Professional Society of
Mass Communicators, the new
campus organization for students
Interested In journalism, adver-
tising, public relations and broad-
casting.
All persons who plan to at-
tend the lake outing should con-
tact Dr. Sewell If they have not
already done so.
Earlier, other activities high-
lighted Mass Communication
Week, including an address by
Dr. Mike Stricklin, associate
managing editor of the Fort
Worth Star-Tslsgram and for-
mer professor of journalism at
the University of Nebraska.

For Classes
Pre-registration for Summer
Sessions 1 and 2 and the Fall
Semester, ’83, will be held In
the Registrars Office April 25-
29, 8:30-4:30 and 6-7:30 p.m.,
with the exception of Friday eve-
ning. All schedule cards must be
approved and signed by respec-
tive major advisors before pre-
registration.
For students pre-registering
for Fall ’83, new I.D. cards will
not be made nor old ones vali-
dated until Wednesday, Aug. 23.
The Media Center will begin this
service then and continue
through Sept. 2. All students who
wish to add/drop, check out li-
brary books or cash a check must
have a valid Fall ’83 I.D. card.
Groups Play Requiem
The Oratorio Chorus and Or-
chestra of Wesleyan, directed
by Stephen Simons, will perform
the Brahms’ German Requiem,
Op. 45, on Sunday, May 1. The
performance will begin at 7 p.m.
in the Polytechnic United Meth-
odist Church.
The Requiem, considered to be
Brahms’ most important choral
work will be sung in English.
The soloists will be Melanie
Rutledge, soprano, a member of
the college faculty, and Jack
Goldiron, baritone, a faculty
member at the Southwest Bap-
tist Theological Seminary. Alice
McDaniel, also a Wesleyan fa-
culty member, will serve as con-
certmistress.
Brahms’ Requiem is not a
Catholic mass for the dead, but
a fundamentally Protestant one.

ful resurrection and reunion
through the atoning death of
Jesus Christ. The work consists
of seven movements, and the
words chosen from the scriptures
were personally selected by
Brahms.
There will be no admission
charge and the public is invited
to attend. Further information
is available from the School of
Fine Arts.
Contest Set
Sigma Tau Delta, Wesleyan’s
English Honor Society, will be
sponsoring a creative writing
contest, according to Dr. Neil
Duncan, the group's sponsor. Hie
contest will include three cate-
gories: Short story, poetry, and
essay writing.
Entry in open to all students.
Any composition to be entered
must be turned in to Dr. Duncan
by Wed., April 27, in 102-D Ann
Waggoner Hall. All entries must
be typed and have no identifying
name or mark. An identification
number will be assigned when
the works are turned in. Wes-
leyan faculty will be judging the
entries.
Awards will be given for first
second and third places in each
category. Cash prizes and certi-
ficates will be awarded when the
winners are announced on
Awards Day.
Service Drops
Draft Validation
Schools are no longer requir-
ing students to sign a form with
the Selective Service questions
on it in order to receive financial
aid.
Officials at the Education De-
partment have been reviewing
the many responses they have
received and are trying to de-
velop an alternate position on
the method of validation of
Selective Service registration.
