trict court. Tile case was called for
trial yesterday morning by Judge
Pearson.
The committee In charge of the
entertainment of the Chicago party
gave the following todav:
A meeting was held at the M. A
P. bank yesterday afternoon for the
purpose of outlining
plans for the
entertainment of the Chicago busi-
ness men on next Frldav morning
and the following committee was
appointed to take charge of the ar-
rangements: 1.. M. Ward, chairman;
W. W. Rodger*. R. G. Hall and C.
A. Shock. A meeting of this com-
mittee was held this morning at 9
o'clock and the following sub-chair-
men were appointed: Decorations.
C A. Shock: Dinner and refresh-
ments. W. W. Rodgers: Merchants
and Shoppers, R. G. Hall; Automo-
biles and route. L. M. Ward.
The plan outlined bv the com-
mittee is In brief as follows: Secure
twenty touring cars and have them
at the Cnion station promptly at 8
a. n>., at which time all whistles will
be blown for five minutes. The
cars will leave the station at ¥'3 5
on a toiir of inspection each car car-
rying two visitors and two local bus-
iness men. The line of march will
include a abort spin into the country
a visit to the milling an1 manufac-
turing plants, nurseries,, colleges,
etc., and at 10:00 the parade will
swing into the main retail district.
It is the desire of the committee that
the store* shall be filled with shop-
pers between the hours of 10:00 and
12:00 and to this end Mr. Hall re-
quests that all the Indies plan their
week's shopping to comp at that
time and all the local merchants are
requested to put on a special bar-
gain sale between those hours. Af-
ter a tour of the business district
the guests will he entertained at
the local' clubs where the local bus-
iness men will be given an opportu-
nity to meet them. Mr. Shock re-
quests that all merchants prepare
.streamers to hang across the street
or in front of their places of busi-
ness bearing the following slogan:
Welcome to the Athens .of Tex-
as." These streamers will fit any
occasion and can be preserved for
future use.
At 11:20 o'clock a dinner will
he served to the guests and the re-
ception commitHc at a place to
be announced later bv Mr. Rodgers,
it is also desired that local manu-
facturers plan to furnish the vis-
itors with samples of t^oir products

Railroads to South Texas.
The railroads from North Texas
points to Houston are alreadv pre-
paring for the usual summer traffic
to those latter points and it is ex-
pected that the usual Sunday excur-
sions will he operated regularly
hereafter and ralrloads are expecting
much havler travel this summer
than during the past seasons. Some
announcements have already been
made. In addition to these short
stays, over a Sunday, preparations
are being ramie for longer stays at
the seaports. The first excur-
sion out of Sherman will be next
Saturday. The tickets will be good
for return on Monday evening.
Mike R. Fewell. assistant general
passenger agent for the Texas Trac-
tion company. stated todav that
cars would be running out the
Brockett street line by tomorrow.
Cars out that line have not been
running for several weeks on ac-
count of the street paving and pa-
trons of the line have been greatly
handicapped and in some cases dis-
commoded on account of the change
In traffic. The street paving has
been sufficiently completed for the
cars to run out that line.
Conductor Geo. Dornblazer, for
the St. Louis and San Francisco rail-
way company between Sherman and
Hapulpa is laying off for a few dav*
and is being relieved by Conductor
Harry Stewart.
Verdict is Affirmed.

Dallas last Saturday in the case of
the St. Louis and San Francisco rail-
way "company vs. W .1. .linking in
which tile railway company sought
to have a judgment in favor of Mr.
■linking set aside, the court found
for the latter. Mr, .Bitkins was re-
cently awarded the amount, of $11,-
<1(10 in the district court here for the
logs of an eye while in the employe
of the railway company.

Through his attorney, Judge Rice
Maxey of Sherman. M. W. Elmore
who was arrested at Corpus Christ!
last Friday and who was brought to
Sherman yesterday hv Sheriff Mc-
Afee, charged by Indictment with the
murder of John T. Price and other*,
made application to Judge J. M.
Pearson of the Fifty-ni^th district
court this morning for a habeas cor-
pus hearing. The application was
granted by the court and the hear-
ing set for next Friday afternoon at
1:30 o'clock.

street but other than the rear
trucks leaving the track there was

the St. Louis and San Francisco rail-
way company'North out of Sherman,
who have been laving off for about
ten days, have returned from St.
Louis where they attended the ban-
quet tendered to Vice President C.
R. Gray, resigned, to become con-
nected with some other road. They
report one of the most sumptuous
and largely attended banquets they
have ever attended.
John Kitson. engineer for the
Houston and Texas Central railway
company in Dallas, is in Sherman
for a few days' visit with relatives.

Hustler for the Houston and Texas
Central railway between Ennis and
Sherman who has been laying off
for several days, accompanied by his
wife, has returned from El Paso
where he has been for seven! days
visiting relatives. He resumed his
duties on the Hustler this morning.
