INTERNATIONAL
WOMAN S DAY
“Mujeres Marchando... El Mundo Cambiando”
“Women Marching... Changing the World”
You may not think of San An-
tonio as one of the most progres-
sive cities in the country, how-
ever, San Antonio is one of a few
cities across the nation to recog-
nize International Woman’s Day.
In conjunction with Women’s
History Month in March, various
women's groups from San Anto-
nio and Austin are planning the
1995 International Woman ’ s Day
March and Rally to be held on
Sunday, March 5.
A program of speakers and
performances will serve to call
attention to the present-day
struggles women still face in our
cities and countries around the
world.
“The purpose of the march and
rally is to create a forum for
women’s voices which are often
silenced or given little attention
to,” said Graciela Sanchez, a
member of the planning commit-
tee and long-time community
activist. “And, given today's po-
litical climate of the Repub-
lican-run Congress eliminating
programs that will adversely af-
fect poor women and children,
this year’s march takes on a con-
siderable sense of urgency for
women to be heard,” Sanchez
said.
Individuals interested in be-
coming involved in this year's
march, should call Diana Marin
at (210) 227-3144.

Why GIVE for a Better Future?
Submitted by Jeffrey W. Ford
Great Ideas, Visions, and Ex-
periences (GIVE) is the honors
program at St. Philip’s College.
The GIVE Honors Program is a
new organization that has much
to offer the students who qualify
to be a standing member of this
exciting organization.
For the few students that are
aware of the organization's ex-
istence, there appears to be a
believe that they do not have
what it takes to be involved.
WRONG!
A recent printout from St.
Philips' database revealed that
many enrolled students meet the
requirements to be a member of
the GIVE Honors Program. To
be a member, all one must do is
be a full-time student, have no
more than 30 semester hours
and a G.P. A. of at least 3.25, and
have passed the TASP Test; if
you meet these prerequisites,
you too can be a facet of the
shining diamond that is the
GIVE Honors Program. Addi-
tionally, GIVE encourages
minority and disadvantaged stu-
dents to apply.
For those students who are
accepted, he or she will receive
a full scholarship for tuition and
books to St. Philip's. GIVE
members will also participate in
an honors seminar that surveys
an interdisciplinary discussion
of the great ideas and values of
cultures and civilizations.
Being accepted into this
multi-cultural, cross-disciplin-
ary program allows the student
to exercise their potential inside
and outside the classroom. GIVE
