No more letters?
Dear Editor:
It is a shame that The Texan has hernme a
"controlled press.” Your Editorial department has
discontinued publishing letters from readers. Now
they can be invited (with consent of The Texan) to
give an editorial comment as a “Guest Editorial.”
If The Texan doesn’t agree with what a reader has
to say, they don’t have to print it. Since the views
of the average reader have been “screened” by
The Texan. I will no longer read your newspaper.
Since we still live in a democracy, there are other
local newspapers that gladly let their readers
express themselves without being "invited.”

Editor’s note: The Texan has not discontinued
publishing letters from readers. The notice you
saw last week announced requests for guest
editorial articles from readers In addition to our
regular weekly letters. Guest editorials will be an
expanded version of letters, allowing more space
contributed to a topic. The Texan will continue to
print all letters, space permitting, that are not
judged obscene or libelous. Letters should be brief
(1/2 to 1 page double-spaced typed), typed, and
should include signature, address, subdivision and
phone number for verification only. Since guest
editorials are longer, space must be reserved. Call
660-7112 for information.
Let vendetta die...
Dear Editor:
The Texan article “Meyerland loses again,”
(Nov. 13. 1985) does not mention a very important
point of the exorbitantly expensive lawsuit that the
board of directors of the MCIA (Meyerland
Community Improvement Association) filed
against my neighbors and myself.
I think if the other families of Meyerland were to
see the portion of Section 4’s deed restrictions that
the MCIA disputes, they will be inclined to ask
their representatives on the MCIA board to drop
this extravagant ($260,000 could have done an
awful lot of beautification in our subdivision) law
suit.
Th^ paragraph in dispute, quoted exactly as it
appears in my deed restrictions says: "These
restrictions and covenants may be amended and
changed at any time by the affirmative vote of the
then owners of at least two-thirds of the lots shown
by the recorded plat of Meyerland, Section 4,
evidenced by a written agreement signed and
acknowledged by the then owners of at least
two-thirds of such lots; such amendment or change
shall become effective upon such written
agreement being filed for the record...”
Is it worth another $20,000-550,000 of
Meyerland money to ask another court to interpret
this paragraph? If it’s not, please ask the
representative from your section to let this
vendetta die; to quit reading something into the
words that isn’t there; and to quit throwing good
money after bad.
The irony of the position that the MCIA has
taken is that if they were to win their law suit, it
would mean that the written word of any
homeowner’s deed restrictions would not neces-
sarily mean what those restrictions say.
