vjui regular Tuesday ingot meeting, leader Llste
Duff led the members in a short devotional for her.
Ann, you will be greatly missed.
Retired Army - Lt. Col. Glenn E. Swartz passed

Bellaire. He leaves wife Garnet, two children,
twelve grandchildren and fourteen grand-
children. Thoughts and prayers to the Swartz
family.
Mrs. Frenchy Moreau, Bellaire resident since
1931 passed away Nov. 9 while visiting her sister in
LA. Argentine Marie was born in LA and the wife
of well-known Bellaire barber, Frenchy Moreau
who passed away in 1954. Mrs. Moreau worked at
Chapman’s Young World for many years. She and
husband were instrumental in helping organize
Holy Ghost. Argentine leaves a daughter Mrs.
Betty Jean Cook who is married to J. C., son of
Mrs. Irene Cook- (long-time owner of Irene’s
Beauty Salon, in Bellaire) and granddaughter
Cheryl. Thoughts and prayers go to the family.
The Bellaire Historical Society recently
presented our Bellaire Library with $500,
earmarked for Texas books. 1 enjoyed visiting with
Marilyn Yaple, director. She told me, to date, they
have purchased two copies of James Michener’s
“Texas,” Jean and price Daniels - Texas
Governor's Mansion’’ and “Aviation in Texas.”
My library card had expired. I got a new one and
checked out a new book titled "Diabetic Candy.
Cookie and Dessert Cookbook by Mary Jane
Finsand. I also enjoyed viewing the caligraphy
display.
Kelly's Hardware and Earl Kelly has been a
household word for many, many years. Last week 1
walked in to purchase. Needing help, I asked an
employee who had his back to me. When he turned
around, I w’as very surprised, but glad to see Earl
Kelly. You ought to drop by more often so old-time
customers can say hello and I'll bet, reminisce.
Get well soon to Leroy Pope who is in our
Bellaire General Hospital. After visiting him, I
toured and was amazed at the renovations,
remodelling. Everything was spotless and waiting
rooms very comfortable. I then went to the
Emergency Room where friend "Head Nurse”
Susan Welch proudly showed me their facilities,
and introduced me to the E.R. physician Dr. David
Andrus. Both are very proud of their facilities.
Happy Birthday to a special young lady-Trisha
Blackburn, who now attends San Jacinto Jr.
College.
Get well soon, Helen Moody! At this time she is
in the hospital.
Tom and I were delighted to have Ena Bouillion
of Kaplan, LA. visit us. She is my first cousin and
the midnight oil burned as we discussed “family”
and our early lives in LA.
So sorry to hear of the loss of our reporter Karl
Doerncr’s brother. Nelson, age 19 was a student at
Houston Baptist University and died Oct. 21. He
leaves parents Joan and Karl of Montrose area,
brothers Karl, Mark of Los Angeles, Randall and
siter Alison. Nelson was buried in a small cemetery
near Burton, TX. - 90 miles northwest of Houston.
The Bellaire Trolley is THE big Sesquicentennial
project for Bellaire and help is needed. We are still
trying to raise the money to repay Interfirst Bank
for the loan they made us to help buy the trolley.
Contributions are tax-deductible, should be
marked “FOR TROLLEY” and mailed to Bellaire
City Hall, 7008 South Rice Ave., Bellaire, TX
77401.
Our Trolley still needs work. A special undercoat
must be applied iu all .-miiai.es and ihe aucru fiiiiSt
be treated with special protective coating before it
is painted. Some refmishing will be necessary. We
already have volunteers lined up, ready to help,
but lack of money is hindering us. We are having a
special Christmas sale of the MILLIONAIRE
GAME OF BELLAIRE -Instead of $15 per game,
they are now $10 and if anyone buys two, we will
gift wrap.
Till Next Week!
P.S. Wes Seeliger, Tall Texan Columnist and I will

Celebration begins
By Evelyn Nordyke
In July 1964 Bro. Roland Hayes and family
returned to Houston from Malaui Africa where
they had served in the mission field. In an effort to
start a congregation in southwest Houston, Bro.
Hayes secured the Bellaire Scout House for a place
to hold services, until land could be purchased and
a building built. Land at 6033 South Rice was
purchased and construction began. Our first
meeting in our new building was on Dec. 5, 19o5.
The Congregation grew fairly rapidly and in 1969
an addition was built. In 1972, elders and deacons
were ordained. Elders were J. E. Leavelle, Asa
Blankenship and Roland Hayes - Deacons were Ed
Bennett, Vern Johnson, Pete Kelly, Lee Copland,
John Calhoun and Paul Pinkston. In 1974 Bro.
Roland Hayes and family moved to Dallas to accept
the job of Director of the Farmers Branch Bible
Training Work. Brothers Mike Breshears, Mike
Sokoff and Jim Shelburne have served as
ministers since then. Our present minister is Bro.
Alfred Johnson who came to us two years ago, with
wife Janet and two children Abigail and Matthew.
The Rice Ave. Church of Christ will host their 20th
Anniversary meeting on Dec. 6, 7 and 8th. We
especially invite all of our past members, visitors
and old friends to come and be with us. Services
will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights
with refreshments following. Services will be at
10:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. Afterwards we will
all adjourn to the Bellaire Community Center for
fellowship. At 1.30, the 5r*i_ci Spirit Singers from
the Houston Bible Training Work (South Houston)
will present a concert. Closing services will be at
2:30 p.m. at Bellaire Community Center. Our 6
p.m. services at the church building are dismissed.
Bro. Roland Hayes and family were Bellaire
residents for about 10 years. A special invitation
goes to all of the Roland Hayes family former
neighbors and friends. Come help us celebrate this
joyous occasion -- our 20th Anniversary. This
celebration is in conjunction with our Bellaire
Sesquicentennial.
