club convenion in Waco. Mrs. J.
S. MacManus, who accompanied
Mrs. Bybee to the convention, also
gave a few highlights of the trip.

The Macdona 4-H Club met
May K, with nine members present.
Evelyn Field called the meeting
to order, and led the club motto,

ing for the spring Wednesday at-

After a covered dish meal was
served, the officers for the en-
suing term were install* d by Mis.
Herbert \\ ntson, after which Mis.
Travis Lilley, president, appoint-
ed the chairman of her commit-
tees for the next year. 1 he next
meeting will be held in September.
LUTHERAN YOUTH MEETING
HELD ON MONDAY, MAY 5
The Lutheran Youth Organi-
zation had its regular meeting on
Monday. May 5. The meeting open-
ed with hymas, scripture reading
by Lloyd Lindeburg, and prayer
and topic by Barbara Graff.
A report was given by Barbata
Graff on the spring rally which
was held at Highland Park Luth-
eran Church on May 4. Seven local
members attended. ,
Sandwiches, drinks, cookies, po-
tato chips, and corn chips were
served by Ruth, Esther and Wil-
liam Reus to 14 members.

Officers Installed
CASTROVILLE — Mrs. Joe
Bailey Martin of Devine installed
officers of the Castroville PTA in
a candlelight ceremony held Tues-
day, May 13.
They are Mrs. Lillian Haby,
president; Mrs. Berdien Griggs,
vice-president; Mrs. Ruth Hard-
castle, secretary; and Mrs. Uree
Richter, treasurer.
The community choir, directed
by Mrs. Carl Richter, rendered
several numbers.
Buffet-style refreshments were

The table was set with a lace
cloth with a centerpiece of pink
roses among candlesticks of crys-
tal. Crystal service dishes held

and Mrs. Tom Cullins, a former
president, poured tea.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ludecke
bought a house belonging to Roy
Carter, not the Roy Carter home
as was implied in last week's item.
They have moved here from San
Antonio.
Attending the Lions (Tub con-
vention in S.tn Nntonio last week
were Ed Stiegler, N. P. Pope, W.
F. Gaudian, Bill Woo'd, and George
Dawson. Pope president-elect of
the Hondo (Tub, and Mr. and Mrs,
Biil Wood will attend the Inteinn-
tn 'ial I.ions Convention in Mexico
City this summer.

D’Hanis Juniors Entertain
Seniors With Banquet May 7
D’HANIS-—The Junior Class
of D’Hanis High School entertain-
ed the Seniors with the annual
Junior-Senior formal banquet in
the school auditorium Wednesday
evening, May 7, at 7:30 o’clock.
Senior class colors, blue and
white, mingled with the brilliant
colors of a Mexican theme to
transform the auditorium into a
scene suggestive throughout of a
grand fiesta. A huge red cart piled
high with fruita, vegetables, and
flowers, and stands of pottery and

Meets On May 8
CASTROVILLE — St. Ann’s
monthly meeting was held May H
with 73 members present. Birth-
day songs were sung for three
members having birthdays this
month.
Five dollars will be sent to the
Holy Father for mission linens.
Members were asked to bring to
the next two meetings roll band-
ages made from any kind of
clean, white material, any length
or width, so they can be packed
for a delegate to take to the con-
vention.
The convention will be held at
Shiner, July 15, 16, and 17, 1952.
Members who would like to go
should let the officers know at
the next meeting.
St. Ann’s Society will donate
the second place winner prize for
the academic and civic honor
roll, to the boy or girl at the
school at the closing exercises.
Attendance prize at the next
meeting will be $5.00. Mrs. Leo-
nard Marty has been reappointed

The meeting adjourned and the
hostesses served a lunch consist-
ing of Tea sandwichvs, cup cakes,
and coffee.

CASTROVILLE—The Lily Blue
Birds met at the Legion hall at
3 P M Wednesday. Marilyn
Biedigei in a candle-light ceremo-
ny, received her flying up cer-
tificate into camp fire from her
leader, Mis. F. J. Dallal. The Lily-
Blue Birds sang “Happy Birth-
day” to Marilyn and wished her
well in her new Okiciyapi camp
fire group.

and Miss Anne Davis attended
the third quarterly meeting of the
Border District Bar Association
at Carrizo Springs Saturday.
Judge Graham B. Smedley of the
Supreme Court of Texas and
Judge W. O. Murray of the Court
of Civil Appeals, San Antonio,
were the guest speaker. A re-
ception for the ladies was held
itt the home of Mrs. H. C-- Petry
and a dinner and entertainment
program was held for all visiting
attorneys and their guests follow-
ing the meeting. The fourth quart-
erly meeting of the Border Dis-
trict Bar Association will be held
in August in Hondowith the mem-
U rs of the Medina, County Bar

MOTHERS CLUB NEWS
CASTROVILLE — St. Louis
Mothers Club met Wednesday af-
ternoon, April 30, with about 23
members and 2 guests present.
l he monthly award of $ 1 went
to the tenth'_grade—Dcr—having
basketware made the stage re-
semble a Mexican market. Sera-
es, sombreros and scores of bright
alloons also added color to the
scene.
The speaker’s table was cen-
tered with a beautiful arrange-
ment of bright flowers, and in-
dividual tables covered w-ith bright
cloths had small pieces of Mex-
ican pottery containing flowers.
After the quests were seated two
Jboys, rolling a cart, presented
each lady with a rose. The sopho-
girls,—m—blight patiliwoik
skirts, white blouses, and hair
ribbons, served the meal to about
90 guests including the Seniors,
and their parents, Juniors, board
of trustees and wives, and the
school faculty.
After the invocation by Father
H. V. Hug, Herman Schmidt, pres-
ident of the Junior class welcomed
the quests. J. C. Biry, Senior class
president, included in his response
a toast to his alma mater. The
Senior class history was given
by Bob Rothe, the prophecy was
read by Herman Schmidt, and the
last will and testament by Charlot-
te Koch. The Juniors sang two
songs, “Adios Muchachos,” and
“I-a Palorna,” Following the bene-
diction by Father Hug, the assem-
bly sang the Senior class song,
“The Halls of Ivy.”
Dancing and games were enjoy-
ed until a later hour.
The banquet menu, served in
pottery dishes, consisted of grape
juice, roast meat, mashed pota-
toes, peas and corn, sombrero
salad, hat rolls, butter, apple pie,
and ice tea or coffee. '
Hosts for the evening were the
following members of the Junior
class: Claude Burks, Joe Del Toro,
Irma Ibarra, August Lutz, Alex
Morin, Pauline Ontiveros, Herman
Schmidt, and Dora Trevino. The
entire banquet was undeT the di-
rection of the Junior class sponsor,
Miss Fred Boyce.

Sponsors May Fete
DEVINE—The May Festival,
JieltLThursday evening aii thc War
Horse football field, and spon-
sored by the Devine School Band,
was well attended. The theme of
the festival was "Drama and
Songs from the Old Testament”.
Four dramas portrayed were
"Jonah and the Whale,” "David
and Goliath,” “Noah and the
Ark", and “Daniel in the Lions
Den.’’
Reigning over the festival was
Queen Barbara of the House of
Soilock, and King Joe Frank of
the House of Greenlees. Maudie
Montgomery ,of Shook School
reigned as queen in ’51, and
placed the crown upon the queen
of ’52. Jackie Center reigned as
king in ’51.

CASTROVILE — Bonnie Nell
Gerloff won second place in the
district revue held at El Paso.
As five girls won first place, Bon-
nie Nell will not be sent to A 4 M
College as would have been the
case oi the number of first places
had been limited to three.
Bonnie Nell has been in club
work for three years. According
to Miss Jane Combs, Home Dem-
onstration Agent, Bonnie Nell has
assisted first year 4H Club mem-
bers with laying patterns and cut-
ting fabrics; helped with con-
ducting club meetings while con-
tinuing her own clothing and bed-
room projects. Her entry was
four gored red and white floral
percale in the district meet.
Moye Celebration
Draws 300 Persons
CASTRCrVILE—An estimated
300 persons from Castroville and
throughout the state witnessed
the Marine Corp Day celebration
and watched the marching of the
cadets, Sunday, May 11.
The best drilled cadet selected
during the exhibition drill was
Michael Kerby of San Antonio,
judges were Maj. Oswald, Capt.
Richard Schott and Maj. O’Con-
nell. retired present commander
of the Castroville American Legion
Post.

Kerby, whose father was a colo-
nel in the Air Force and was
awarded posthumously the medal
of honor.; Pat Gilbert and Jack
Chaorin both of Houston; and

with the boys at the Moye Military
Academy.
