SCROOGE HAS LEFT THE BUILDING is the lesson the ghosts of Marley, Christmas Future, Christmas Past and Christmas Present
learn. The play was a highlight of “Christmas in the Land of Paws” Friday night at Flying Feather Ranch’s party barn. The event was
a fundraiser for Hope House, a planned no-kill shelter for pets. In the revision of A Christmas Carol, the ghosts who plan to haunt
Ebenezer Scrooge find that he had moved, and, due to confusion over the International Date Line, they’ve arrived a day early. From
left are Ben, the occupant of Scrooge’s former home (James Waldrup); Marley (Teresa Hebebrand, who had less than a week to
practice after the original Marley had to drop out), Christmas Future (Stacey Nolen), Christmas Past (Dr. Cherie Nazzal), and Christmas
Present (Zeth Abney). Miriam Hill (not shown) was Mrs. Ben, who frightened the ghosts.

‘Med emergency’
may have been
averted in state
Texas’ “medical emer-
gency” has been partially
averted.
The Texas Legislative Bud-
get Board has directed the
Health and Human Services
Commission (HHSC) to re-
store part of a cut in payments
for patients covered by both
Medicare and Medicaid.
Because they qualify for
both government health in-
surance programs, these
patients are sometimes called
“dual-eligible” patients.
They are often the poorest
and sickest Texans.
