Marion H. “Sambo” News-
om was born July 26, 1924,
to James Homer and Doris
Hicks Newsom, in Coffeeville,
Upshur County, Texas.
As a youngman, he married
Lillie Mae Gaddis on January
28, 1942. They were married
63 years.
Mr. Newsom peacefully de-
parted this world October 31,
2012, at his home, surrounded
by his loved ones.
Mr. Newsom was a lifelong
resident of the Coffeeville
Community. He was a mem-
ber of the Coffeeville Baptist
Church.
He was a hard-working, devoted husband, loving father,
grandfather and great-grandfather.
As a youth, he began working for his grandfather, Starr
Newsom, at the family-owned sawmill in Ore City.
He continued working in the timber industry with his
father, until he began employment with Lone Star Steel in
the late 1940s.
Mr. Newsom worked as a service attendant during his 38
years of employment and service for LSS.
“Sambo” was an avid lover of the outdoors. He had a pas-
sion for hunting, fishing on his pond and working with his
cattle. His whole life he loved taking his family to Texarkana
Lake to enjoy camping and fishing.
He also enjoyed taking snapshots of wildlife, birds and
other aspects of nature. He had a special love of humming-
birds and he prepared for them every year.
“Daddy/ Paw-Paw” had a number of interests and talents.
He had a particular knack creating beaded jewelry, specifi-
cally in the Native American tradition.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling to
Arkansas and Missouri with his wife, “Lil,” sister-in-law,
“Jean,” and her husband, “V.T.”
Mr. Newsom was a Mason at the Ore City Lodge No. 1364.
He was a member of Sharon Temple, as well as a 32nd degree
Scottish Rite member. He was a member of freemasonry
for over 60 years.
Mr. Newsom is survived by his son and daughter-in-law,
Joe and Charlotte Newsom of Ore City, Texas; daughter
and son-in-law, Marion and Salty Aycock of Avinger, Texas;
daughter, Debbie Grant of Avinger, Texas; and daughter and
son-in-law, Patricia and Robert Cook of Ore City, Texas.
He is also survived by a very special sister-in-law, Ms.
Virginia “Aunt Jean” Leard of Ore City, Texas.
Paw Paw is further survived by eight grandchildren:
Sammi Drew of Longview, Texas; Andy Aycock of Hughes
Springs, Texas; April Aycock Grogan of Avinger, Texas;
Joe Wayne Newsom Jr. of Gilmer, Texas; Staci Grant of
Avinger, Texas; Robin Lee Cook of Addison, Texas; Josh
Grant of Avinger, Texas; and Marion Ashley Cook of Ore
City, Texas.
Paw Paw is also survived by ten great-grandchildren:
Parker and Peyton Drew of Longview, Texas; Jayden and
Kamden Grant of Avinger, Texas; Murandi and Trinity
Aycock of Pittsburg, Texas; Andrew and Asher Grogan of
Avinger, Texas; and Ashlynn and Gatlin Grant of Avinger,
Texas.
He is survived by numerous other family members and
cherished friends.
Mr. Newsom was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae
Gaddis Newsom, in 2005. He was also preceded in death by his
son, Tommy Marvin Newsom, in 1997. Also preceding him
in death was his beloved brother, James Preston Newsom,
who died in service in World War II.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Novem-
ber 2, 2012, at the Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home Chapel in
Gilmer.
Interment followed in Ore City Cemetery in Ore City.
Greg Luke Austin
I960 - 2012
Memorial services for Greg Luke Austin, 52, of Gilmer
were held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, at Glen wood First
Baptist Church, Upshur County, with Bro. Edward Crouch
officiating.
Mr. Austin was born on Sept. 12,1960, in Temple, to Luke
Albert and Glenda Joyce Barnes Austin and died Sunday,
Oct. 28, in Gilmer.
He lived in the Gilmer area for more than 30 years and was
employed for Acuren as a radiographer.
He is survived by his wife, Jessica Austin of Gilmer; father,
Luke Austin, of Copperas Cove; sons, Matthew Thompson of
Gilmer and Patrick Thompson of Bossier City, La; daughter,
Rachel Austin of Copperas Cove; brother, Jeff Austin of Aus-
tin; sister, Andye Pettyjohn of Keller; and six grandchildren,
Ethan, Leila, Eden, Elijah, Elliot and Evan.
Mr. Austin was preceded in death by his mother, Glenda
Austin.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Croley
Funeral Home in Gilmer.

Terry was born on March
25,1966, in Houston, Texas.
He married Kim Montj oy
on October 18,1997 in Plano,
Texas.
Terry was a self-em-
ployed poultry farmer, and
lived in the Big Sandy area
for 10 years.
He is survived by the love
of his life, wife and soul
mate, Kim; mother, Fabia
of Gainesville, Texas; father,
John of Huffman, Texas;
brothers, John, wife An-
nette and niece Brooke of
Midlothian, Texas; Greg and
niece Laegan of Humble,
Texas, Jeremy of Houston,
Texas; step-sister, Melanie
Hogan of Houston; in-laws;
Linda and Pat McCright
of Garland, Texas; Joan
and Ben Montj oy of Plano,
Texas; grandmother-in-law,
Ruth Brewer of Oklahoma
City, OK; numerous loving
aunts, uncles and cousins,

Terry was a special and
gifted man who touched so
many lives. He will be deeply

will enter original drawings

Lee Morgan Taylor, 54, of
Gilmer will be held Saturday,
Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. at Gilgal Bap-
tist Church with Rev. Archie
Tennison officiating.
Burial will follow at Pleas-
ant Hill Cemetery in Halls-
ville, with services under the
direction of Turner Brothers
Mortuary.
Mrs. Taylor died Oct. 29 in
Longview. She was a Pentecos-
tal and member of the Holy
Cathedral of Praise.
She was born Aug. 20,1958
in Houston. She was a home-
maker.
She is survived by two sons,
Danny Taylor, Jr. of Longview
and Jamar Todd of Gilmer; a
daughter, Farrah Morgan of
Longview; a brother, Malcom
Turner of Ft. Worth; a sister,
Dianne Beans Buchanan of
Longview; seven grandchil-
dren and a great-grandchild.

She is survived by a son,

a .243. Kendall is the son of Neil and Anna Hays of Gilmer.
