Miss Boone honored
with bridal shower
Melissa Boone, bride-elect of John Fitzgerald Green of
Huntsville, was entertained with a bridal shower on the after-
noon of Oct. 6 at the home of Toni Jenkins on Mary St.
Ms. Jenkins greeted guests and introduced the honoree, her
mother Debbie Lovorn and the prospective groom’s mother
Ginger Green.
Guests registered in the foyer on a beautiful antique table.
Placed next to the bride’s book was an ornamental Jim Shore
bride and groom.
Miss Boone enjoyed opening gifts in the living room, while
visiting with guests. Other gifts were displayed on the sun
porch and in the bedrooms.
The refreshment table, draped with a lace-trimmed linen
cloth, held a beautiful autumn flower arrangement.
Punch was served from a crystal beverage urn.
Crystal platters were filled with cucumber and ham salad
sandwiches, a cheese ball with crackers, olive balls, petite filled
pie shells with chocolate and coconut pie, nuts, and mints.
Adorning one end of the table was a pineapple with speared
cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, grapes and pineapple
kabobs.
Members of the house party w7ere Holly Green and Haley
Riley.
Hostesses with Ms. Jenkins were Cindy Barham, Suzy
Bongers, Mary Jo Dean, Cindy Gabehart, Sandra Glaze, Mary
Ann Gipson, Stephanie Hamberlin, Mary Jo Hollowly, Tammy
High, Pat Long, Amy Patterson, Deloma Poole, Kathy McGuf-
fin and Bonnie Shattles.

Stars schedule
potato supper
The Gilmer High School
Stars Drill Team will hold
a potato supper fund-raiser
Friday, Nov. 9, before the Buck-
eye-Kilgore football game.
The dinner will be in the
high school cafeteria.
The menu consists of baked
potato, salad, cookies and a
drink. Tickets for those over
12 are $6, 3-12 $3, and under
3, free.
Tickets may be purchased
in advance from any drill team
member, or at the door.
Benefit set today
for Rev. Griffin
A benefit musical will be-
held for Rev. Gabriel Griffin
at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist
Church at 6:30 p.m. today
(Saturday, Nov. 3).
Rev. Griffin is the son of
Vernon and Tina Griffin and
the grandson of Frankie Ven-
ters and the late O.T. Griffin Sr.
and Eva Granville Griffin.
The funds are being raised
for medical expenses for a
kidney transplant.
Everyone is invited to
attend. Donations will be
welcome.
Bean cook-off
happening
today at Bettie
The Bettie Volunteer Fire
Department is hosting its 4th
annual Bean Cook-off today,
Nov. 3, at the fire station.
All interested parties are
invited to make a pot of beans
and join in the fun.
If you plan to submit an
entry, please have your beans
at the fire station between 4:30
and 5 p.m. forjudging.
Cornbread, drink and des-
sert will be served from 5 until
7 p.m., for a donation.
Bring the family for a great
dinner and enjoy a tour of the
fire station.
You may visit with candi-
dates for local offices, who
have also been invited.
A silent auction of many
items, along with a holiday
raffle, will be held.
Ore City sets
Yule Fest event
The Ore City Fun Festival
Committee is sponsoring a
Yule Fest on Nov. 30 and Dec.
1.
There will be a Flea Market
and food concessions spon-
sored by school groups, on
both days.
Activities on Saturday will
include a parade at 10 a.m. and
children’s games and rides
all day.
Other plans and activities
will be announced later.
Entry forms for the parade
will be available at City Hall
until Nov. 25.

East Mountain Baptist
Church welcomes Dr. Tim
Smith as pastor. This Sunday,
Nov. 4, EMBC will join with
Pastor Smith in a special cer-
emony of dedication to each
other before God.
The public is invited to the
10:45 a.m. event and other ser-
vices at the church.
Dr. Smith was born and grew
up in Dallas. He accepted Jesus
as his Lord and Savior while
a high school senior. He soon
thereafter recognized a call to
ministry, and began to prepare
and to serve.
He graduated summa cum
laude with a Bachelor’s degree
in Psychology and Bible at Blue
Mountain College in Missis-
sippi; he completed a Master’s
of Divinity at Midwestern Bap-
tist Theological Seminary in
Kansas City, Mo.; he earned his
Doctor of Ministry in Evange-
lism and Church Growth from
New Orleans Baptist Theologi-
cal Seminary.
He has pastored churches
in Tennessee, Missouri, Iowa
and Texas. He also pastored
a church in Aviano, Italy for
several years as well.
He cherishes community in-
volvement, and has participated
in many ways in the places
where he has pastored.
These include coaching
Little League baseball teams,
organizing fund-raisers for
charitable organizations, serv-
ing as Hospice chaplain, Cub
Scout leadership, and member-
ship and presidency of various
community boards, as well as
local Ministerial Associations.
His publications include
Putting Out the Welcome Mat
and Keeping Tabs on Your Kids
in Sunday School Leadership—
Large Church Edition, and
others.
His church-related positions
have included European Baptist
Convention Vice President, In-
ternational Baptist Convention
Long Range Planning Commit-
tee, Baptist World Alliance work
groups, MBTS Planning Task
Force, Seminary Extension In-
structor, and many service roles
at both State and Associational
levels.
He is married to Tennessee
native Christee Sheree Kerr.
They have two sons, Kody and
Kameron, in college.
