Mrs. Joe Brown and children, Mar-
vin and Stanley, returned last week
from San Antonio, where they visit-
ed relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Max
Pomerantz and son, Melvin, accompa-
nied Mrs. Brown to Mercedes, where
they will visit until next week.
Mrs. Hattie Coy of Brownsville was
the guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Mil-
ler the first of the week.
Misses Mildred Dodillet of Harlin-
gen is visiting Mr. and Mrs. D. Grant
Wagner this week.
Mrs. L. L. Barham, Miss Eunice
and Eugene, who have been guests of
Judge and Mrs. John P. Gause, left
Monday for their home in Earle, Ark-
ansas, going by way of Houston and
Galveston.
Mr. and Mrs. D. Grant Wagner
spent last Wednesday in San Benito.
Mrs. P. W. Perkins attended a
bridge party given by Miss Vera Let-
zerich of Harlingen Saturday after-
noon.
Mrs. H. E. Hvistendahl of Kings-
ville arrived Tuesday to be the guest
of Mrs. Allan Hvistendahl.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin C. Hammack
of Pasadena, California, are guests of
Mrs. Hammack’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. E. E. Evans. Mr. and Mrs. Ham-
mack own a large chicken ranch in
California.
Mrs. Fred Robertson of Edcouch
was a guest of Mrs. N. E. Tucker
Monday.
Mrs. Harry Warren and sons, Har-
ry, Jr., and Freddie, who have been
guests of Mrs. Fred Warren of Mer-
cedes, and Mrs. Warren’s parents in
San Juan, have returned to their home
in Amarillo.

Mrs. Max Conrad and son, Fergu-
son Wood, are visiting Mrs. Conrad’s
mother, Mrs. C. F. Steves in Runge.
They made the trip to Runge with
Mrs. Conrad’s brother, Herbert
Steves and family, who visited in
Mercedes last week.

Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Bates returned
Saturday from San Antonio, where
they spent a week visiting their
daughter, Mrs. Glen Metcalf. Miss
Nan Frances Bates remained in San
Antonio to spend several more weeks.
H. M. Rouse left Wednesday for
Kerrville to join Mrs. Rouse and little
son, Harry, Jr., who with Mrs. Car-
rie M. Stuart, Mrs. Rouse’s mother,
have been spending a month in the
Davis mountains and Kerrville. From
Kerrville they will motor to Gales-
burg, Illinois, the old Stuart home,
where Mrs. Stuart will visit for some
time. Mr. and Mrs. Rouse will go
from Illinois to Lake Geneva, Wis-
consin, the boyhood home of Mr.
Rouse.
Mrs. Allan Hvistendahl will have as
guests at the wend end her aunt,
Mrs. Edward Myers, and children,
Edward, Margaret and Georgetta, of
El Paso, arid her sister, Miss Louise
Myers of Floresville.
Mrs. H. H. Kidder of San Juan
spent Wednesday in Mercedes, the
guest of Mrs. Allen Hvistendahl.
Mrs. Emil Ewing of Weslaco and
Miss Edna Olson of Donna were in
Mercedes Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Grant Morrison, Dr.
and Mrs. T. W. Carter, Mr. and Mrs.
L. E. Fritz and Mrs. Alma Ferguson
formed a party to Point Isabel Sun-
day.
Walker Bray of Dallas is in the
Valley on business this week, having
spent the early part of the week in
Mercedes.
A. R. Kling returned Tuesday from
St. Louis and Indianapolis where he
spent two weeks transacting busi-
ness.
N. M. Harrel of Kingsville was in
Mercedes the early part of the week,
transacting business.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Nolan of Kings-
ville were in Mercedes Monday.
Harold and Louis Wood left Wed-
nesday evening by motor for Colum-
bia, Tennessee, where they have ac-
cepted positions.

Vote Aldemanic Government
The aldermanic form of city gov-
ernment was shown an almost com-
plete preference to the commission
form in the straw vote taken Satur-
day to determine the form desired in
Edcouch. The vote was light and con-
sisted of 36 ballots cast for the al-
dermanic form of government and two
ballots for the commission form and
one vote which was cast against in-
corporation, making a total of 39
votes polled in this election. J. I.
Ballenger, local wholesale gasoline
dealer, received the largest number
of votes. H. F. Bruggeman, local
hardware and implement dealer was a
close second with 34 votes. Following
in line are Fred J. Robertson, with 26
votes; H. D. Minnyard, 24; A. J. Ste-
phens 23; and J. C. Sammons 23, who
by pledge will be supported in the
official election for incorporation. A
petition was signed at the same time
asking for the incorporation of Ed-

Church of Christ Revival Well
Attended
The revival sermons being delivered
by Rev. W. M. Jordan of Kennedy,
Texas, and pastor of the Church of
Christ at that place are being well
attended at Edcouch. Much interest
is being manifested in the meetings
both by young and old and the ser-
mons have been a dig drawing in-
terest as well as the singing hour
which has added to the spirit of the
revival.
Firer Delegates Return From
Convention
C. M. Adkins, fire chief and E. B.
Burke, fire marshall, returned last
Saturday from the state fire conven-
tion held at Denton last week. These
men have brought back with them-
selves much valuable information that
will be of aid to the fire department
and the town as well. Among the
other things the boys were successful
in bringing about action to have the
fire insurance key rate reduced in
Edcouch.
Masonic Lodge Elects Officers
The members of the Masonic order
of Edcouch met Monday night at the
Masonic hall over the bank and held
election of officers. The officers
elected are:
B. Kelley, W. M. S.; Fred J. Rob-
ertson, S. W.; H. D. Niday, J. W.;
E. E. Black, treasurer; E C. Reason-
over, secretary; Jerome Parker, Ty-
ler. These officers will be installed
Monday night, July 2, at the regu-
lar meeting. Other officers will be
appointed at this time.
The baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Art Bruggeman was badly burned on
the feet Friday afternoon while play-
ing in the yard at the home of Mrs.
O. F. Gaffner. A bed of coals were
still alive from where a washing had
been done, and the little child walked
in to it. One foot is badly burned.
She is under the care of Dr. E. B. Ba-
ker of Edcouch and was resting as
well as could be expected at this time.
Mr. and Mrs. H. Reasonover of
Raymondville were visitors at the
home of their son, E. C. Reasonover,
Sunday.
Miss Mildred Shabow underwent an
operation for appendicitis in the Har-
lingen hospital Tuesday morning. She
is resting well at this time, according
to her sister, Mrs. Foreman, who is
nursing her.
A. J. Harrell made a business trip
to Mercedes and Harlingen Tuesday.
Miss Elma McNeese spent the week
end with Mrs. M. A. Shields, while
Mr. Shields was away on a fishing
trip.
J. A. Fountain of Raymondville was
a visitor at the home of his sister,
Mrs. M. A. Shields Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Hill and daugh-
ter, Julia, have returned from a short
business trip to Corpus Christi. They
remained over the week end there.
Mr. J. H. Jackson and family will
leave soon for their future home in
Eastland County, Texas. Mr. Jackson
formerly lived on miles 15 1-2 and 1.
He traded his farm here for several
hundred acres of land in Eastland
county.
Girls Attend Camp at Rio Hondo
Misses Cary Anne Hadden and Ma-
rietta Brooks are attending the
Girl Reserve camp which is being
held on the Arroyo Colorado at Rio
Hondo this week.
Swimming Meet at Mission Today
Misses Ruth Wood, Marjorie Wig-
gins and Catherine Commons of Mer-
cedes will enter the Valley Girl Re-
serve swimming meet, which is being
held in Mission today.

Lone Star Club Meeting
The Lone Star Home Economic club
met at the Community House Tues-
day afternoon with several members
present. Roll call was answered by
“One Thing a Child Should Not Eat.”
President Hughes gave a report of
the encampment held at Weslaco. The
president appointed a committee to
look after delinquent members. It
was decided by the members to have
a banquet for their husbands and
families Friday night, June 29. Mrs.
R. R. Hill was selected to attend the
A. & M. College Short Course the lat-
ter part of July. The meeting ad-
journed to meet with Mrs. Elzia Roser
July 3.
Mr. J. I. Ballenger and daughters
were visitors in San Benito Sunday.
“Sorrell and Son,” the beautiful
story of the love of a father for his
son, presenting a galaxy of famous
stars including Alice Joyce, Anna Q.
Nilsson, Carmel Myers, H. B. War-
ner, Norman Trevor and Nils As-
ther, and “Skyscraper,” a super-fea-
ture, starring William Boyd are the
pictures which will be presented at
the Empire over the week end.
“Sorrell and Son” will play Friday.
It is the picturization of one of the
best sellers of the year. “Skyscrap-
er,” which is playing Saturday and
Sunday, is recognized as Boyd’s most
notable picture, even surpassing
“Dress Parade.” Cecil B. DeMille is
director of “Skyscraper,” which is
enough in itself to endorse the value
of it.
