Tuesday, October 9, 2012.

back taxes. He said that
he had submitted a bid for
the property which was ap-

and the City of Timpson.
Superintendent Mid John-

bid for this property has
not been submitted to the
school district for approval
and until such time cannot
be acted upon.
Janie Rains advised
that the rate of collection
for taxes is still running
slightly behind last year’s.
However, the year is just
starting and the rate of col-

that the certifiable values
went up which is a plus for
the school district.
Mary Lynn Tinkle said
that C-Scope is the State
curriculum and is more
rigorous to prepare the
students for Staar Testing.
She said that the district
has been doing team build-
ing between the campuses.
This year the student ath-
letes are helping with team
building. On Friday morn-
ings, they eat breakfast
with the elementary kids.
It is working well for both
the kids and the athletes.
The kids are making post-
ers and plates to cheer on
the athletes. She also said
that sub-training is on-
going. So far, they have
trained over 20 substitute
teachers. October 26 will
be Elementary night at the
football game. She said
that the Timpson Volun-
teer Fire Department will
help the school practice
an emergency evacuation
next week.
Superintendent Mid
Johnson said that the school
has some pretty old school
buses in service - some
1991s and 1992s. He said
that the school needs more
reliable buses for long
trips. He said that one trip
bus they had was involved
in an accident. He said
they are currently looking
By: Hilda Pena
at a possible grant program
to pay for a portion of a
school bus which will be
more economical as well
as greener and would allow
the school to save money
on fuel and maintenance.
Mr. Johnson said that the
Board needs to budget for
the purchase of buses next
year. He recommends that
the Board consider buying
at least one new bus every
year.
The Board approved
the purchase of a new
Bluebird Vision 77 pas-
senger trip school bus with
air conditioning and un-
derbody storage. They
also approved a budget
amendment for $90,000
to purchase the bus. In
other business, the Board
approved minutes from the
last meeting, the accounts
payable, and a notice to the
Comptroller to maintain
their right of imminent
domain.
The board went into ex-
ecutive session to discuss
personnel matters, but took
no action upon returning to
open session.

limits to her poultry farm.
Ms. Morrow said that she
has 6 house poultry farm
about 1/2 miles from the
city limits. She said that
the city used to provide
natural gas to her farm but
the one inch line could not
adequately provide enough
gas to service her chicken
houses and several years
ago she had to switch to
propane. Melvis Bell in-
formed the Council that it
would cost approximately
$14,000 to replace the
line with two inch piping.
She agreed that if the City
will extend a 2 inch line,
she will pay 1/2 the cost
for the line. The Council
approved the extension

City of Tenaha hires company to audit street lights and
traffic light costs
The Tenaha City Coun-
cil met on Monday, Octo-
ber 15,2012. The Council
heard from Larry Mc-
Guffin of evSolar Energy
LLC. His company of-
fered to audit the City’s
street lights and traffic
light to be sure they are
not being over charged for
their wattage use by the
electric company. They
just finished a report for
Center and their report will
save Center over $800 per
year in energy savings and
a refund for $20,000. The
only fee they charge for
their services is 45% of
any refund they retrieve
for the City. The Council
approved letting evSolar
Energy LLC run an audit
on their street lights and
traffic light.
Wes Wheeler reported
the State inspection went
well. There were only a
few things that must be
fixed. The Imhoff Tank
at the wastewater plant
must be emptied. He has
received two bids for this
job. The lowest bid was
from Just In Time Sanita-
tion in Center for $4,500.
Mark Hixson asked him to
price the cost to do this on
a regular basis so the cost
would not be so high next
time and they could avoid
any future violations. The

Council agreed to have
Just In Time Sanitation do
this job. Mr. Wheeler then
told the Council the well
pump at Ground Storage
needs to be pulled up and
repaired. It pumps 100 gal-
lons of water a day and is a
necessity for the City. It is
only 8 to 10 years old but
does more work than the
other pumps. He received
two bids on this job also.
Lane Drilling in Tyler had
the lowest bid of $13,642.
The Council approved al-
lowing Lone Drilling to do
this job.
Councilwoman, Fran
Partin asked the Council to
make some sort of deadline
on a few projects they
have been discussing for
some time with no action
being taken. Moving the
City Hall to the Com-
munity Building was her
mail focus. Mark Hixson
agreed there was already a
committee for this project
and they have met several
times and will try to meet
again soon to discuss go-
ing out for bids on this
project.
