Expo offers direct contact between
prospective employers employees
Event planned
Tuesday, Feb. 11
at Civic Center
Special to the Journal-Spectator
The Wharton County Business
Expo will showcase our extensive busi-
ness community and the many job op-
portunities that it offers.
The Expo will be from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. next Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the
Wharton Civic Center, 1924 N. Fulton
St. in Wharton.
“People are sometimes not aware
of the services, products and jobs that
employers provide in our community,”
said David Schroeder, executive direc-
tor of the Wharton Economic Develop-
ment Corp.
“The Business Expo is a great way
to get informed and meet prospective
employers about a new employment
opportunity.”
Booth space is free. Entry is free to
the general public.
Annually, Schroeder said, Wharton
County partners summon the work-
force, higher education, chambers of
commerce, and economic development
offices in an effort to assist employers
and staffing agencies to identify em-
ployees best able to satisfy local em-
ployment needs.
Various booths at the job fair will
have that goal in mind for tempo-
rary as well as full-time employment.
Among them will be schools, manu-
facturers, and area governments and
schools.
Admission is free. Booths also are
free. Colorado Valley Transit is avail-
able to those who need transporta-
tion to and from the job fair. Just call
1-800-548-1068 to schedule your ride.
“We hope employers will still sign
up for a booth and candidates for em-
ployment will come prepared to inter-
view,” Schroeder said.
Employers will have access to quiet
areas to conduct interviews.
The Business Expo is sponsored
by Wharton Economic Development
Corp., Workforce Solutions, El Cam-
po Chamber of Commerce, Wharton
Chamber of Commerce, City of Whar-
ton, University of Houston Small Busi-
ness Development Center, Wharton
County Junior College and Wharton
Independent School District.
Call 979-532-0999 for questions or
how to participate.
