Don’t miss Wharton’s most unique dining/live music
venue.
This Friday is the date of the next Java Jam at the
Milam Street Coffee Shop in downtown Wharton. Bub-
ba Westly, the pride of Boling, Boling High School Class
of 2008, accomplished 22-year-old singer, musician and
songwriter, has been crafting his music skills since he
was a child, raised in the church and developing an
early love of music through old hymns. His love of mu-
sic compelled him to master numerous instruments, in-
cluding guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, French horn, piano
and drums.
After graduating high school and attending college
on a baseball scholarship, he realized that his true call-
ing was music and returned to pursue his musical as-
pirations fulltime. Westly graduated from South Plains
College in Levelland with a degree in Commercial Mu-
sic and Music Management. Westly also toured with
several Texas artists as a drummer and lead guitarist
before pursuing his own dream.
Here’s the way the Java Jam works:
• 6-7 p.m. — Opening music
• 7-8 p.m. — Buffet
• 8-9 p.m. — Second round of music
A few other things you need to know:
• Cover charge is $15 per person to help pay for guest
musicians. This is an honor system donation to help at-
tract and pay gas money to out-of-town musicians.
• Bring your own wine if you wish.
• Door prizes will be given away featuring the Janu-
ary Business of the Month.

— Truck loses two tires,
ignites grass fire on 59
Continued from Page A1
“I saw the tires in the grass
smoking,” Abbott said. “The
axle broke and a piece of met-
al likely landed in the grass.”
The truck pulled off the
highway farther down the
road. Department of Public
Safety Trooper Jason Gingles
later contacted the driver and
learned that the man had
been flagged down by a pass-
erby who informed him two
tires had come off the trailer.
‘We’re real lucky the tires
didn’t bounce across the road
and hit an oncoming vehicle,”
Abbott said. “Those tires could
have taken somebody out.”
