UTPB to sponsor science
and engineering days
Public school students
and special interest
groups from throughout
the Permian Basin are
expected on The Univer-
sity of Texas of the Per-
mian Basin campus
Feb. 26-27 for Permian
Basin Science and Engi-
neering Days.
Dr. David Eggleston,
chairman of control
engineering at UTPB.
said the program is
intended to promote
interest and enthusi-
asm for science and en-
gineering.
“There will be exhi-
bits and demonstrations
of interest to all age
groups from children
through senior citizens.
School classes are invi-
ted to tour the exhibits
on Friday,” he said.
included among the
exhibits will be home
computers, talking com-
puters, computers that
display and play music,
an operating flat-place
solar collector system,
microprocessors, and a
microprocessor - based
data logging system.
Also included will be a
wind-augmented auto-
mobile, an aircraft simu-
lator, a jet helicopter, a
ham radio and an auto-
mobile computer com-
mand and control.
Demonstrations of bio-
feedback and water con-
trol analysis, and an
ergometer demonstra-
tion of human power in-
put also are on the
agenda.
Saturday's events
will feature a kite flying
contest in addition to
the demonstrations and
exhibits. Awards in
the kite flying contest
will be made for the
prettiest and highest
flying home-made kites
in three age groups —
kindergarten through
fourth grade, fifth grade
through ninth grade,
and 10th grade and
above.
“This is an opportu-
nity to come and experi-
ence some of the fun
and fascinating develop-
ments in science and
engineering,” Eggle-
ston said. “We are devo-
ting exhibit space to
those projects and de-
monstrations which have
proven to be the most
fun and interesting to
students — the hands-
on, let-me-try-it variety.
It’s all free and a lot of
fun," he added.

_____ VICTORY
When you are forgotten, or neglected, or purposely set at naught, and you smile with your heart at rest.
That Is Victory!
When your good is evilly spoken of, your wishes are crossed, your task offended, your advice ridiculed
and you take it all in patient loving silence
That Is Victory!
When you are firm in difficulties and superior in adversity,
That Is Victory!
When you fully realize that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom,
That Is Victory!
When you lament not the loss of that you cannot retrieve,
That Is Victory!
When you know that each day is a new life, and that yesterday is one hundred years old,
That Is Victory!
When you are content with simple raiment, plain food, and climate, any solitude, any interruption.
That Is Victory!
