Supt. Wm. J. Teel retires
Superintendent Wm.
J. Teel last January an-
nounced his retirement
after eight years with
Reagan County I.S.D.
He plans to take it easy
this summer at his Wa-
ter Valley home, per-
haps doing some travel-
ing. At present, he has
no plans to work w ith the
public schools.
Mr. Teel is originally
from Water Valley and
his mother lives at Carls-
bad. He and his wife
Jimmy have been mar-
ried since 1953. Their
three children. Rhonda
Beth. Jennings, and
Edie. have all been ac-
tive in Reagan County
school programs. Jim-
my is a Real Estate
Agent and an aide for
the RC1SD Special Ser-
vices Department. The
Teels are Methodists
and members of the Big
Lake Golf Association.
Mr. Teel has been asso-
ciated with the Big Lake
Lions' Club and Cham-
ber of Commerce.
Mr. Teel replaced Ben

grams at Western Texas
College. Prior to that he
served six years as Su-
perintendent of Schools
at Iraan. His profes-
sional experience totals
35 years, starting as a
teacher four years
at Peacock. He then

moved to Aspermont
where he was principal
for eight years and su-
perintendent four years.
From there he moved to
Iraan as Superintendent.
Mr. Teel holds a Bach-
elor of Science Degree
from Abilene Christian
University, and a Mas-
ter of Education Degree
from McMurrv College.
He has also completed
additional courses of
study from Angelo State
University, Abilene
Christian University,
Southwestern Louisiana
Institute, and the Uni-
versity of Texas.

sity Athletic Director
Phil George will address
the RCHS graduation
class of 1981.
George earned his
Bachelor of Science and
Master of Education De-
grees, plus additional
work toward a Doctoral
Degree, from the Uni-
versity of Texas at Aus-
tin. During his career as
a UT eager, the Long-
horns finished 3rd in
NCAA in 1947, played in
the National Invitational
Tournament in 1948, and
won 2 Southwest Confer-
ence Championships.
Over this span (1942-43.
1946-49) the Longhorns
w on 87 and lost only 14.
During World War 11,
George served as an
Army Air Corps pilot in
the China-Burma-lndia
theater of operation. He
w as recalled in 1968 and
served for l‘/i years in
Viet Nam, Europe, and
the U.S. He retired from
the USAF Reserve as a
Lieutenant Colonel with
over 6,500 pilot hours.
George and his wife.
Toddy, have three chil-
dren: Jennifer, Judy,
and Mike.
For the past 13 years,
George has served as
Athletic Director and As-
sociate Professor of
Health and Physical Ed-
ucation at ASU. George
came to San Angelo Col-
lege in 1949 and since
then has worked with
the basketball, football,
track, baseball, and golf
programs. George was
one of the winningest
college basketball coach-
es in the country with a
record of 514 wins and
244 losses. For the years
1972. 1973, and 1974
the ASU athletic pro-
gram ranked in the top
twenty NAIA all-sports
championship schools-
in an organization that
includes some 565
schools.
