County and precinct
candidates were assessed as follows:
Sheriff, county clerks, county attor-
neys, $50; county judges, tax assess-
ors, $45; county representatives, di*
trict clerk, treasurer, $20.00; county
superintendent, $30.00; surveyor, com-
missioners, and justice of the peace,
precinct No. 1, $15, constable pre-
cinct No. 1, $10.00 and all other of-
ficers, $5.00.
These assessments are supposed to
be paid to the county chairman by
the fourth Monday in this month,
which is June 28th. The number of
candidates in the field this year is
some larger than that of two years
ago and the assessments have been
lowered a little.
It has been estimated that the
state apportionment for schools for
the session of 1920-21 will be $12.70
per capita according to a statement
issued by State Superintendent, Miss
Annie Webb Blanton, as compared
with $8.50 for the past school year.
This will give each school a nice
additional fund with which to pay
the increase in the salaries of the
teachers. This increase conies from
the funds that were appropriated by
the legislature in the recent Jailed
session. It has also been estimated
that the increase in valuations will
add further to this fund. It is to
be hoped that some permanent ar-
rangements can be made that will
give the teachers an adequate salary.

Equalization Board at Work.
John McMahan, J. B. Alvis and J.
R. Fleming are sitting/ as an equali-
zation board for the city of Weather-
ford, and are now actively going
over the assessors books. The city is
going on a full rendition this year
and one member of the board says
that it is surprising at the way the
people haVte responded to the re-
quests of the commission. The in-
dications are that the increase in
rendition will reduce the tax rate
considerably and at the same time
give the city a much larger fund
upon which to operate next year.
This is needed. Every department
of the city is now cramped on ac-
count of necessary funds to prose-
cute the work that is needed. There
are streets to fix, but the funds are
short and as a result the citizens are
forced to travel over rough streets.
There are other improvements that
should be made. Weatherford is no
exception to other towns. The city
