Lions to be in Brenham Friday night
Lions nip Tyler Lee in thriller
'RENHAM—Out with
the old, in with the new.
Friday night will mark the
beginning of a new basketball
season for both the Livingston
Lions and the Brenham Cubs.
Lions and Cubs will battle it
out in a District 18-AAAA game
Friday night in Cubs Gym at
7:30 p.m.
The Lions are 7-11 overall and
1-1 in 18-AAAA play.
Lions win
Th Livingston Lions closed
out the 2007 season on Satur-
day, Dec. 29 with a 45 to 44 win
over Tyler’s Robert E. Lee High
School in the Lufkin High
School Holiday Tournament in
Lufkin Middle School Gym.
Trailing by one with seconds
left, Tyler’s junior Kerry Jones
was able to get his shot away
against a triple team, but it
didn’t work.
The loss is Lee’s ninth in a
row, but head Coach Alan
Johnston, former Nacogdoches
High athlete, praised his team’s
effort against the Lions of
Livingston.
Tyler Lee (4-13) held an
eight-point lead in the first half,
but miscues enabled Livingston
(7-11) to pull within a point, 28
to 27.
The teams traded baskets for
most of the second half until the
Lions were able t«r nudge ahead !
in the fourth and hang on.
Tyler Lee’s was led by Jones
with 13. Senior Dralen St. Paul
also scored double figures with
10.
Junior Dustin Harris led the
scoring with 25 points. Jerrell
Wallace, a 5-foot-10 junior, turned
in 12.

The Brenham basketball team
performed well in the Cameron
High School Holiday Tourna-
ment, closing out with a third
place finish.
The Cubs lost their first
game, 53 to 50.
Leading scorers for the Cubs
were D’Anthony Stewart Man-
ley with 16 points, followed by
Terrell Reese with 13 points.
In their final game of the tour-
nament, Brenham sealed third
place standing with a 50 to 35 win
over Class AA Lbxington High
School.
Brcnham’s Landon Wright
paced the Cubs with 23 pojnts.
and Kevin Breedlove added 12
points.
At the conclusion of the tour-
nament, Breedlove and Manley
were honored to the All-
Toumament team. Manley aver-
aged 15 points per game
throughout the tournament, and
Breedlove averaged 11 points.
