Garden Club members
will plant three cherry
laurel trees in a triangle
on the southwest comer
of the swimming pool
area. Cherry laurels
provide evergreen beau-
ty during all seasons of
the year.
Reagan Garden Club
members are responsi-
ble for numerous trees
being planted in the
county park, near the
swimming pool and the
Youth Center, and the
Memorial Pecan Grove
along the draw which
runs through the park.
A large number of
Senior Citizens thor-
oughly enjoyed the Arts
and Crafts Exhibit and
Covered Dish Luncheon
sponsored by the Twen-
ieth Century Club,
TFWC, of Big Lake.
Activities began at 11:00
a.m. Tuesday, January
13 at the Fellowship Hall
of the First Baptist
Church. There were
many lovely quilts,
afghans, paintings and
antique items displayed
and the Twentieth Cen-

thank each person who
shared these beautiful
examples of their crea-
tive abilities.
Grace before the meal
was given by the Rever-
end J. B. Bitner, Jr. Af-
ter lunch a welcome was
extended to the guests of
honor by the club presi-
dent, Mrs. Eugene
Blake. She also present-
ed a humorous selection
about growing older.
The informal program
began with a group dis-
cussion about early days
in the West Texas area
led by club member,
Mrs. Brown Hayes. Mr.
and Mrs. Hayes have
been residents of Big
Lake since 1935. Mrs.
Fletcher Holt spoke of
many interesting events
that happened at Stiles
in the early 1900's.
Mrs. Bode Owens told of
ranch life in Barnhart
many years ago such as
having to cook on a wood
stove and opening 6
gates to get from the
ranch to town!. Mrs.
Sue Metcalf mentioned
the thousands of cattle
and sheep once shipped
by railroad cars from the
Barnhart area.
