(IVINGSTON-----
On the one hand, the basketball
is a grenade. Pull the pin. Tick,
tick, tick. Toss it and —
BOMB------a defense
splatters.
On the other hand, the basket-
ball is a fragile porcelain egg.
Handle with care. Drop it and an
offense shatters.
In both hands, the basketball is
safe with Nederland High
School Bulldogs of Coach
Brian English.
How safe? The Bulldogs
scored 35 points in the fourth
quarter to beat Livingston, 66
to 56, in a District 20-AAAA
game Friday night in Lion
Country Gym before a near
full house.
Nederland's Dionte Forney, 6-
foot-4, 215-pound junior, is no
average Bulldog athlete.
Last football season Nederland
lost their starting quarterback
Kirby Bellon, a 6-foot-2, 185-
pound senior, with a knee in-
jury. He is the best. Will play
baseball for The Texas Long-
horns.
Coach Larry Neumann picked
Tyler Smith, a 6-foot-1, 175-
pound junior, to bark the calls. He
didn’t last long when he suf-
fered a knee injury.
Then Bulldogs selected Adam
Atterberry, a 5-foot- II, 180-
pound senior.
So on Friday night, Oct. 23
Nederland came to Lion Coun-
try Stadium to play Coach Randy
Rove’s LlbHS.
Atterberry watched from the
sides lines as Dionete Forney
was alost a one man show
against the Lions.
Forney could play for any
team in the state. He completed
l9-of-28 passes for ?72 yards
and three TDs.
Forney and his Bulldog
teammates beat the Lions, 31 to
14.
Friday night
Folks, the Bulldogs know
how to wn. They all played
well as team. A well coached
team.
Forney and and Chris Cun-
ningham tied for scoring honors
with 18 each. Forney made five
field goals and hit 8-of-10 from
the charity line. Cummingham
scored four three pointers and
was perfect at the free throw line
hitting 6-of-6.
Ryan Hadnot was the third
Bulldog to score in double figures
with 16. He made 4 field goals,
credited with one 3-pointer and
made 5-of-5 at the free throw
line..
S. Landry, C. Stewart and D.
Campbell were sharp ball han-
dlers for the visitors.

Turnovers. Lions had so
many, fans stopped counting.
There is no way Lions can
make the playoffs this winter if
they continue making so many
turnovers.
Lions scored 12 field goals,
seven 3-pointers and hit I!-of-17 ,
free throws.
Senior Justin Miksch is a joy to
see playing for the Lions. He is
a role model for his teammates.
Miksch scored one field goal,
five 3-poiners and I-of-1 at the
free thrown line.
Senior Devion Harris recorded
15 points. He had four from the
